Stop by the Free Mental Wellness Expo

This Sunday


The City's Human Equity, Access and Relations (HEAR) Commission is hosting a Mental Wellness Expo on Sunday, September 18 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Arbor at 324 S. Mission Drive.


Residents and community members will be able to enjoy yoga and soundbath demonstrations as well as access mental health resources and information at the event. The afternoon will include workshops and presentations made by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health in English, Mandarin, and Spanish. Topics covered include grief and loss, childhood anxiety and depression, and anxiety disorders. Attendees will also have a chance to participate in giveaways and other fun activities for kids and adults.

Applications Now Available for

SGPD's Community Academy


San Gabriel Police Department’s Community Academy has returned for its Fall session and is now accepting applications from interested attendees through Friday, September 23. 


Taking place every Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning September 26, this twelve-week course offers an introduction to various SGPD bureaus, community programs and the criminal justice system. Community members will have the chance to participate in hands-on activities that offer an authentic law enforcement experience, including police tactics, self defense, and firearms safety. Translation services will be available in Spanish and Mandarin.


Admission will be based on a first-come, first-served basis for qualified applicants, who will need to pass a basic background check. Qualified applicants who are not admitted into this session will be waitlisted for the next academy session.

SGV Transit Feasibility Study Community Workshop


The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG), in partnership with LA Metro, is studying how to improve public transit services in the San Gabriel Valley. During Phase 1, they identified 15 alternatives and subsequently narrowed it down to the best three. Now it’s time for the community to weigh in on these routes. Please attend one of their upcoming virtual Transit Study Community Workshops on Tuesday, September 20.

New Omicron Boosters Now Available


Updated COVID-19 booster shots targeting the latest dominant Omicron subvariants are available at numerous locations.


“The upgraded shots will help protect you in the upcoming weeks and months,” Orange County health officer Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong said in a briefing Tuesday. “I want everybody to have a really good holiday season. But that means protecting yourself against the variants that are circulating.”


The booster is offered at CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid, among other pharmacies that are already offering the booster.

Grand Reopening of Senior Programs Next Friday


Residents are invited to join the Community Services Department on Friday, September 23 and learn about recreational programs and new experiences offered by the City of San Gabriel and other community organizations. The event will also feature a special Art Exhibition by the San Gabriel Art Club.
