ILWA Update 7/1/2020
Parks & Beaches Update

We are excited to share that Worcester's beaches opened today! This includes the beach at the end of Clason Road and Shore Park. Our friends at the YMCA of Central MA Greendale Branch provide the lifeguards for Shore and the City provides lifeguards at the Clason beach. Hours are noon to 7 pm, 7 days a week.

More information and additional locations of beaches and spray parks can be found here: City of Worcester Beaches Pools Spray Parks

Sadly, there will be no concerts held at Shore Park this summer. We look forward to their return in 2021!

Portable toilets arrived today at Morgan Park. Just a reminder that there is no swimming at Morgan Park due to the proximity of the boat ramp. Thank you to the City of Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks for updating the line striping at Morgan Park. This should make it much easier for folks to park while leaving space for boat ramp users and emergency vehicles to enter and exit.
Ensuring an Enjoyable and Safe Summer for All

Indian Lake is the largest water body located entirely in the city of Worcester! We are so grateful for all the folks who come to use our beautiful lake and the public spaces surrounding it. With residents still having limited recreation choices due to COVID-19 and being cooped up for months, there have been several challenges with overcrowding, noise and trash as well as inexperienced boaters.

We ask that all boaters review the Massachusetts boating safety laws before entering any water body. A summary can be found here: MA Boating Safety Summary While a boating license is not required in Massachusetts, there are numerous organizations that hold classes for you to become familiar with inland and off shore boating laws and navigation.

If you see dangerous activity at the parks or on the lake, please reach out to the appropriate department so that they can respond accordingly:

Parks and beaches, please contact:  Worcester Police Department ...  Emergency 911;  Non Emergency 508-799-8606

On the water, contact:  Massachusetts Environmental Police  Dispatch 800-632-8075

The Worcester Police Department has now added a dedicated line to report fireworks. You can r eport an anonymous tip by calling (508) 799-1003 or text to 274637.

The best summer is a safe summer!
WPI Students Highlight Fishing in Worcester

We are thrilled to participate in another Independent Qualifying Project (IQP) with students from WPI!  Mustafa Eracar, a management engineering major, and Daniel Botelho, a civil engineering major, have been working with several of our local lake and pond associations. The project encompasses outreach and analysis of our  Angler's Survey as well as developing ways to highlight fishing in Worcester.

Their advisor is ILWA board member Aaron Sakulich.

We look forward to sharing more information as the project wraps up!
Neighborhood Cleanup Opportunities

We were not able to move our normal spring group cleanup forward, yet ILWA board member Marcel Blais was kind enough to set up numerous tasks in online documents so that residents can help on their own time. Consider we normally have group cleanups spring and fall as well as board members and neighbors that continue to maintain several locations all season so help is always appreciated!

WPD Indian Lake Neighborhood Meeting

The Indian Lake Neighborhood Meeting meets monthly. At every meeting we receive an update on the neighborhood crime statistics from Worcester Police Officer Lisa Carlson. This meeting also encompasses quality of life issues in the neighborhood such as missing street signs, graffiti, illegal dumping, pot holes, abandoned vehicles, abandoned houses, etc. The meeting is typically attended by a City of Worcester Code Enforcement representative who is also available to answer questions about city ordinances.

Next meeting:  Wednesday, July 15th at 6pm (Online)

Please email diane.mohieldin@gmail.com to get the most up to date information on upcoming meetings and minutes.

When in person meetings resume, all Neighborhood Meetings are also listed on the City of Worcester website.
