'HAPPY HOUR"
This is a piece that I wrote for a class of mine this semester when we were asked to write about a community we have in which we find identity with. My next-door neighbors and their daily open invitation happy hours is place where I find great community and friendship. In this piece, I tried to write about the experience objectively, as one may experience it for the first time. This piece is dear to me for a lot of reasons... I present to you, "happy hour".

This week I share my first experience at the Rose Parade. As temperatures drop and the ground gets whiter, I cant help but recall one of my first New Years in the US. I was lucky enough to be able to walk to the parade from my home and attend the exclusive Post Parade for free.

In the past, we have discussed different tactics to use to help release you of negativity and stressors as well as being mindful of your body through awareness. This upcoming week, I am encouraging everyone to tap into their insight and awareness. The focus will be on knowing your senses. Let's talk about our five senses.

A VISIT WITH MAE SIMPSON
THE VOICE LEADING TC'S BEST NEW BAND
Mae Simpson Music, the Twin Cities 2019 Best New Band according to the annual City Pages Readers' Choice poll, brings a special Thursday, Nov. 19, daytime performance to Minnesota State Mankato. The concert from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union Ostrander Auditorium is the fall finale for the CSU Serendipity Music Series. Kara Allen, inSIDER student staff writer, visits with Mae has her seven-piece band prepares for the live and live-streamed high-energy performance.
GOING HOME FOR BREAK?
FREE SALIVA TESTING FOR STUDENTS
Thanksgiving is just over two weeks away—and we want you to be able to go home for the holidays confident that you will not unknowingly spread coronavirus to your family and friends. That’s why we are launching a new testing partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health. For the next two Thursdays, the university will be offering free saliva testing on campus open to all students. The testing event this Thursday, Nov. 12 will be from Noon – 6pm in the CSU Ballroom. The location for the Nov. 19 event is still being confirmed and will be communicated to you as soon as possible.

HOW CAMPUS CAN HELP OR HURT WELCOMENESS
Have you ever wondered what goes into a student deciding to spend time on campus? For many underrepresented students, having somewhere that feels safe, secure, and welcoming is paramount to their success. Join us, Thursday, Nov. 12 at 2-3:30 p.m. for a virtual presentation, where we will discuss how physical spaces affect students' perceptions of being welcome on campus, including centers, rooms, and landmarks.

'HEALTH FOR HEROES'
VETERANS OFFERED FREE DENTAL CARE
Minnesota State University, Mankato's Dental Hygience Program is honoring America' miliary by offering free dental care to veterans and active, reserve and retired military members on Tuesday, Nov. 1- and Thursday, Nov. 12. Appointments, which include cleaning, x-rays, exams, sealants and fluoride treatments, are required. To schedule an appointment, call 507-389-2147.

RAISING AWARENESS
HOMELESSNESS HUNGER AWARENESS WEEK
National Homeless and Hunger Awareness week is from Nov. 15-22. It is the annual effort towards addressing food insecurity and homelessness. During this recognized time, participating groups spend the week holding a series of educational, service, fundraising, and advocacy events. Activities and support events can include things such as food drives, annual chili feeds, or sleeping in your car type events in order to raise awareness and support those facing homelessness and/or food insecurity.

IT IS OPEN AND AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS
If you are looking for a place to play catch or kick some soccer balls, then make sure to check out the dome. Students are welcome to use the facility during its open hours. You only need your MavCard to check-in and follow the social distancing and face covering precautions.

MAVERICK TALENT CONTEST FILMING
The filming portion of the Maverick Talent Contest begins on Thursday, November 19th. The filming portion is to make good quality videos for the live stream show. The team will be meeting and working with the talent acts to find the best time to film for them. The filming will take place in Ostrander, where lights and sound will be provided for the acts.
