A Letter from Mr. Fitzgerald
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I pray that your families are safe and well. We have successfully made it through the winter months without having to close the school.
I want to thank our faculty and staff for the amazing job they have done this year. I also thank you with all my heart for your support as we navigated through this strange year of COVID-19. We now have 6 weeks and 2 days remaining in the school year and I ask you not to let your guard down. Although Connecticut’s infection rate this week is 1.3%, we know that individuals are still contracting the virus. Our soccer games tonight are postponed due to players on the other team testing positive for COVID.
Governor Lamont announced this week that he will be lifting some state restrictions during the month of May. The CDC has put out new guidance regarding distancing and mask-wearing. Most of the new guidance pertains to those individuals who are fully vaccinated. Although our faculty and staff are fully vaccinated our students are not. Therefore, all COVID-19 protocols in place at St. John Paul II will remain in place until the end of the school year. All faculty, staff, students and any visitors to the school are mandated to wear masks. Students outside for recess are never 6 feet apart from one another, especially on the rope dome, so masks are mandatory at recess as well.
May is the month dedicated to Mary our Mother. During this month the students will recite a decade of the Rosary each morning in honor of Mary and for the end of the pandemic. Our annual May crowning of Mary will take place on Monday, May 3rd at 10:00 AM.
The statue in front of St. Mary’s church will be crowned. As this ceremony is outdoors, I invite you to attend if possible. Masks are mandatory.
Again, I thank you for your support throughout this year and I pray that your families will remain safe and well. May you all enjoy the nice spring weather, and may God continue to bless us all as we come to the end of our school year.
Sincerely,
Larry Fitzgerald
