Understanding urban coyote behavior

WesternU College of Veterinary Medicine Associate Professor Curtis Eng, DVM, is part of a UC Agriculture and Natural Resources team that is tracking and studying coyotes in Southern California. He is featured in a story and documentary on their work.

Patricia Lozano, MBA, WesternU Executive Assistant to the Chief of Community & Governmental Affairs, is nominated by Downtown Pomona as the March 14 Downtown Woman of Impact for 2021.
Lozano’s role allows her to connect businesses with other community partners or with someone within the University. She is also involved in fundraising or bringing new programs to our local clubs.

From the College of Pharmacy:
WesternU COP faculty and student body have made significant service contributions in the fight against the pandemic. We are also seeing the impact and influence of scholarly work as well.
Three publications by Dr. Anandi Law (some that were previously announced as PPAD Accomplishments) that address various aspects of the pandemic such as vaccination uptake/hesitancy in select patient populations and research priorities, can now be queried on the World Health Organization website under COVID-19 Global Literature on Coronavirus Disease.
Dr. Rachel Ryu has been selected as the Membership Committee Chair for the Inland Regional Chapter of the California Society of Health System Pharmacists. She was installed on March 11.
Dr. Shawn Smith and colleagues published a case report in Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists.

From the College of Veterinary Medicine:
CVM alumnus Won Kim, DVM '19, had his peer-reviewed manuscript "Antimicrobial Resistance in Escherichia coli Between Conventional and Organic Broiler Flocks” accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Poultry Research. His collaborators are Teresa Y. Morishita, CVM Professor of Poultry Medicine and Food Safety, and Fanglong Dong, Associate Professor in the Graduate College of Biomedical Sciences. The authors wish to thank the Office of the Vice President for Research for both the receipt of a WesternU Seed Grant and a summer student stipend to support this research. As a result of this research, and the importance of antimicrobial resistance globally, Dr. Kim was recently invited to present his research at the upcoming Research Impacts Webinar of the Poultry Industry Council in Canada.

CHS Associate Dean Tina Meyer, DHSc, MS, PA-C, has been appointed Chair of the Education Committee of CALTCM (California Association of Long Term Care Medicine), where she also serves on the Clinical Practice Committee. Her main responsibility this year will be to spearhead the annual meeting in October that gathers the long term care community together for up-to-date clinical practice, regulatory, legal, ethical, leadership and management, and others topics germane to caring for this large and important segment of our population.

COMP Associate Professor Vicki Wedel, PhD, F-AAFS, gave a talk Feb. 26 on "Forensics and Forensic Medicine as Advocacy" to the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine Anatomy Department.
