Virtual Coffee Connection - Art in School and Communities

South East District Employee Milestone Anniversaries
We are honoured to recognize our very own Tara-Leigh Heslip for five years of service to the South East Sport, Culture & Recreation District! Tara is our Community Development Consultant and works out of our Indian Head satellite office. Tara has been a key contributor to the success of our Recreation Board Development initiative since she began employment with us. She is a resourceful, innovative and compassionate member of our staff team.

Tara has made a difference in our organization through her out-of-the-box thinking, bringing new concepts and ideas to the table everyday. She truly understands the issues and trends at the grassroots level which makes her a huge resource for any community seeking advice. She has also been instrumental in the delivery of our training workshops.

Thank you Tara for your continued dedication and commitment to our district organization!
We are recognizing our Executive Director, Joni Hagen, for ten years of service to the district. Joni works out of Weyburn and is responsible for leading the organization in fulfilling its mission to serve south east communities. Joni’s strengths include strategic planning, evaluation, communications and building partnerships. She is focused, approachable and efficient.

Joni provides excellent support to our volunteer board of directors and is always looking to enhance her knowledge in policy governance. Joni leads her team to deliver quality services and continues to position the organization for success in a constantly changing environment, whether it is seeking out new technology or best practices in community development.

Thank you Joni for everything you do!
South East District Announces 2020-21 Board of Directors
South East District is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to the volunteer Board of Directors -  Ryan Dale  of Whitewood,  Tyler Hillstead  of Weyburn, and  Morgan Jones  of Weyburn.

They will join the 2020-21 board:  Danielle Hoffman  of Stoughton,  Kristeen Cherpin  of Radville,  Sheila Guenther  of Estevan,  Joanne O’Sullivan  of Kipling,  Krista Klemmer  of Weyburn,  Mark Barnes  of Oxbow, and  Brian Chmarney  of Pilot Butte.

2020 SPRA Annual Conference and SaskFit to Become Virtual Events
Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) announce that their Annual Conference, and SaskFit will be offered online in Fall 2020.

This decision is being made now in order to put the effort required by adopting a new delivery model that will ensure they are able to continue providing high quality training, networking and learning opportunities for the recreation and fitness industries, while ensuring their guests, volunteers, and staff remain safe.

Culture Days 2020: September 25th - October 25th
This Culture Days will be an even bigger national celebration where arts, culture, and creativity intersect. Indoors, outdoors, and online—discover the world of arts and culture across Canada.

Culture Days is extending beyond the traditional Culture Days Weekend to a more inclusive and interactive 4-week schedule of activities. Kicking off September 25th and running until October 25th, Culture Days invites everyone to participate in and show appreciation for arts and culture in their own communities and nationwide!
Celebrate Recreational Professionals Week! June 15 - June 21
June 15-21, 2020 was slated Recreation Professionals Week in Saskatchewan for the third year! Show your appreciation of a recreation professional/s in your community by:

  • Creating an appreciation post on social media and mentioning (@SaskRecProf) on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram. Use trending hashtag #SKRECPROFWEEK2020
  • Hanging the Recreation Professionals Week ’20 Poster in recreation facilities and bulletin boards
Spotlight Story: Celebrating our Volunteers:
Board Member, Karen Holloway
Karen Holloway lives in Wapella and was appointed to the South East
Sport, Culture & Recreation District Board of Directors in 2015. Karen
consistently offers her time and knowledge and has attended countless
board and committee meetings over the past five (5) years. She will retire
from the board in May 2020.
Important Update on the 2020 Saskatchewan Summer Games
The Saskatchewan Games Council, the City of Lloydminster, and the Lloydminster 2020 Host Society have jointly announced the postponement of the 2020 Saskatchewan Summer Games until July 2021 due to health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19. The Games were originally scheduled to be held from July 26 – August 1 in Lloydminster, Sask.

The Games are now tentatively scheduled to run from July 18–24, 2021, and will feature competition
from young athletes in 15 summer sports. All sports that were originally included on the sport calendar
in 2020 are committed to participate in 2021.
Creative Alternatives to In-Person Arts-Based Activities
It contains strategies for adapting in-person arts-based activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Forecast Public Arts are launching the first iteration of this toolkit now and will continue to develop it based on open-source input from you.

Saskatchewan Lotteries - Everyone Wins!
Sask Lotteries funds over 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups across Saskatchewan. Every time you purchase a lottery ticket in Saskatchewan, a portion of that revenue supports a wealth of organizations in our communities. Subscriptions allow lottery players to play draw-based games – including LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, WESTERN MAX, WESTERN 649, DAILY GRAND and EXTRA – for up to a year in advance. Subscriptions can be purchased by phone, by mail, or on the Sask Lotteries website.
Celebrate June is Recreation & Parks Month! 
June is Recreation & Parks Month is almost here! This year, let’s celebrate Saskatchewan’s awesome parks and recreation services and raise awareness for the role they play as a pathway to individual, community and environmental wellbeing.

SPRA will be sharing stories about the value of recreation all month long and we want you to tell us why you are grateful for parks and recreation in this great province. You can look forward to some great prizes too! The fun begins on June 1!
