If you’re not familiar with our Voices of Freedom team, they do an amazing job capturing the history of our veterans. We have a studio on wheels with our RV where they are able to interview vets and their families around our country. It is an important endeavor as we see our history being rewritten and civics not being taught.
This year began the 10th year for the Voices of Freedom Project. Our goal is to reach 500 interviews this year and we are almost there! On August 27, the Americans in Wartime Museum and Education Center was honored to host Medal of Honor Recipient, Marine Maj. Gen. James Livingston from Mt. Pleasant, SC. During his visit, Dennis Gill, director of our Voices of Freedom Project, had the distinct honor of recording Maj. Gen. Livingston’s experiences, which included commanding our forces in Vietnam and leading the evacuation of Saigon at the end of the Vietnam Conflict. Maj. Gen. Livingston also enjoyed inspecting our tanks, military equipment, and other military artifacts at our Tank Farm.
The VOF project can’t wait to record the many voices whose story tells a tale of the relentless pursuit of freedom from the beaches of Normandy, to the jungles of Vietnam, and on to the deserts of the Middle East. If you are one of those, we’d love to hear your story. Please contact Dennis at dgill@nmaw.org.
