The BHI Transportation Authority (BHITA) met on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, for its regular meeting. The Authority re-elected its current officers for the coming fiscal year. BHI Limited CEO Chad Paul reported that the early Saturday morning outbound ferries are increasingly full of passengers leaving the Island. As a result, several passengers have been bumped to the next boat. Dredge equipment which is owned by the dredging company and has been stored near Southport for months may be removed soon, which should help eliminate the delays in the passenger and contractor ferries.
The Authority unanimously approved a notion by Rex Cowdry to establish an Operations Committee and Users’ Council once the transportation system assets are transferred to the Authority. Details on the number, responsibility and qualifications for membership of each are yet to be determined.
It was anticipated that the Authority would review the appraisal of real property assets discussed by the Local Government Commission (LGC) at the meeting. However, the independent appraiser, Greg Becker of Newmark Valuation Services, reported that the final report would not be completed until early next week. The Authority has scheduled a remote-only Special Meeting on Monday, July 26, 2021, at 1:00pm to receive the final appraisal report.
