Training
Exploring Solar Dashboards Virtual Workshop

This training includes an introduction to solar dashboards and provides educators with the tools and inspiration to integrate solar dashboards in the classroom. Participants will engage with a KEEP outreach specialist and teacher co-hosts.

Participants do NOT need to have access to a solar array and dashboard at their school to participate in this training.

These trainings will be focused on specific audiences as follows:

  • January 12: Middle School Teachers
  • February 2: Non-formal Nature Center, School Forest and Environmental Educators
  • February 23: High School Teachers *ArcGIS Online focus
  • March 9: High School Teachers

MeterHero – AP Environmental Science Enhancement

MeterHero empowers AP Environmental Science students to collect, analyze, and act upon their own utility data by providing real-life applications of scientific practices that fit well as a post-exame project. During this interactive workshop, experience student activities, like reading utility meters, view example finished student projects, and get questions answered.

This webinar is ideal for high school environmental science teachers and AP coordinators.

Solar Energy Potential: Dashboard Technology as a Teaching Tool for Inquiry

KEEP's solar dashboard-based inquiry activities are designed for exploration of geographic and seasonal differences in solar power production. Whether or not your school has a solar array, solar PV generation dashboards are a powerful way to bring the topic of renewable energy to life in the classroom. Discover the benefits of using solar dashboards, electricity generation data, and pre-made online maps to connect concepts of spatial thinking, scientific inquiry, and data literacy. Recommended for 5th-12th grade educators.

Energy Education: Concepts & Practices

Participants will gain fundamental knowledge of energy while participating in this self-paced online module which addresses energy concepts relating to energy definitions, natural laws of energy, energy flows in living and non-living systems, and their relationships to understanding and evaluating environmental issues. Module activities include exploration of energy readings and pertinent websites, home activities such as reading utility bills, home energy audits, and calculating the wattages of various home appliances.

Solar Schools Pavillion

The Pavilion will be in the Exhibit Hall and will provide information for school districts interested in pathways to solar for their buildings. Visit the Solar Schools Pavilion to meet community partners and providers who can help your district develop a roadmap to clean energy. Meet school teams (installers, funders, Focus on Energy, district administrators and board members) to learn more about these districts’ path to renewable energy.

MREA Energy Fair

The Energy Fair features all things sustainable with exhibitors, workshops, Energy Professional CECs, live music, inspiring keynotes, camping, food trucks, solar-brewed beverages, and activities for the whole family.

KEEP is sponsoring free daily admission for the first 15 teachers who show their school district ID at the gate.

Renew Our Schools
Recruiting Fall 2022 cohort

Get your students excited about responsible energy use through Renew our Schools, a five-week energy conservation competition. School teams earn points as students learn key energy concepts and make behavioral changes to reduce energy consumption in their school and community. Top earning schools will be eligible to receive a cash prize to make permanent energy-saving changes in their school buildings.

Dates: October 3 - November 11, 2022.
Cost: FOCUS ON ENERGY® is pleased to sponsor 15 schools for the Renew Our Schools challenge in Fall 2022. Schools will pay a small cost for enrollment which will be reimbursed by Focus on Energy upon completion of the challenge.

Clean Energy Career Video Series
KEEP and Slipstream, along with multiple utility and technical college partners, published an educational video series highlighting career opportunities in clean energy. Featured careers include electric superintendent, lineworker, renewable energy installer, project manager, solar technician, and policymaker. KEEP created a companion classroom-ready lesson to guide students through exploring each of the videos.

KEEPing Green
This informal monthly gathering is a collaboration space for Wisconsin high school students starting or leading Green Teams in their school. KEEP staff will host the meeting and create a nurturing atmosphere for students to share leadership experiences, connect with clean energy or sustainability resources for their school, find out about upcoming events and collaborate for a clean energy future. Details about KEEP mini-grants for Green Teams will be shared at each meeting. Session recordings will not be published to protect student privacy.
