The Bella Quilt!
Greetings!
Everything About This Quilt Is Bella!

The quilt is bella! The quilter is Bella! Everything is Bella! Bella means beautiful. It is short for Isabella, which comes from Hebrew meaning "God's promise." And, Bella is our granddaughter!
Bella came to Valparaiso from Arkansas in order to spend two weeks with Ruth to learn how to quilt. Last year her family [our eldest son's] spent a couple of days in Bluffton OH with us. During that time Ruth taught her how to longarm. So, Bella quilted a whole cloth E2E quilt. This, of course, blew her friends away because they didn't believe she did it.

But, this year, Grandpa [AKA Rick] was ready with the trusty phone camera to document the occasion.

Wouldn't you know that she wanted a King sized quilt for her very first quilt. [Well, thank goodness she had Ruth as the instructor!] She picked out Julia's Stars as the pattern she wanted to use. [That is the one shown on the left on the studio wall, below
To get things going we went to Lolly's fabric shop in Shipshewana. Bella picked out her border fabric, loaded with colors. Then she picked out five main colors in ten hues. She picked out the background fabric as black [her favorite color] which ended up making the stars and their surrounds appear to pop out at the viewer.

We had to prove we were in Shipshewana, so what better way than a trip on an Amish buggy run by an Mennonite.

Pictured left to right are Ruth, Auntie Ann [with whom she stayed while in Valparaiso], and Bella.
It took Bella six days to cut and piece the blocks. A seventh day was needed to assemble the center. Another day to put on the borders. The ninth day was for the binding, which Bella cut and attached with Steam A Seam Lite, with Ruth doing the machine sewing.

It wasn't all work and no play. We took needed time to cut the lawn, whack the weeds, as well as swim, sleep and eat at Auntie Ann & Uncle Peter's.

Nine contiguous days! That was quite an undertaking for a thirteen year-old!. What a beautiful result!

P.S. I'll spare you from the twenty other pictures.
Enjoy your blessings!
At Forever In Stitches our goal is to further the art of quilting and longarming.
