A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Wow! We are in the homestretch. It is hard to believe that in a few short weeks the 2020-2021 school year will be in the books. It was one of the most unusual years, but also one of the most rewarding. I am really going to miss this year’s fourth and fifth graders. What an outstanding group of young people! Thank you to Ms. Hills for composing the VES yearbook this year. I appreciate all of the time spent taking pictures, laying out the book, and working with Inter-State Studios to get it published. She did an excellent job documenting our school year. We will be distributing these books to our students soon.

We recently received some exciting news. VES is a 2020-2021 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School again this year! We are only one of about 200 schools across the nation that received this honor. Capturing Kids’ Hearts campuses across the country were considered for this award based on the following criteria: 1) nomination based on observation, 2) level of implementation of Capturing Kids’ Hearts processes by all staff, and 3) data demonstrating that Capturing Kids’ Hearts has made a significant improvement in attendance, discipline, climate/culture, or academics.

A Flippen Group team used a matrix of key measurements to gather information about Vermillion. Additionally, a survey was given to collect feedback regarding the perceived climate and culture of the school and its conduciveness to learning. Following this process, the selection team reviewed all accumulated data and selected Vermillion Elementary to receive the Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools award. I am so proud of our students and teachers!
Sincerely,
Michael Dome
VES Principal

NURSE's COLUMN

Please continue to communicate with Nurse Jaime if there is any covid-related testing or sickness within your family.
Thank you

Just a quick reminder to send water bottles to school with your child every day as we are not able to provide one for each student. Please make sure your student has a mask each day before they arrive at school and it's helpful to send a backup mask in case their mask gets dirty or wet. We have a limited supply of masks to provide to students.

  • Health Screenings:
We will be starting hearing screenings soon. Results will ONLY be sent home if further testing is needed. Screenings are very basic and are not meant to take the place of professional evaluations. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.

  • Illness:
Please keep your student home if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever over 100 degrees
  • Headache
  • General aches and pains
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Continuous coughing and/or chest discomfort
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
Fever MUST be gone without the use of a fever reducing medication (i.e. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) or Motrin (Ibuprofen) for a full 24 hours before student is to return to school. Please contact me if you have questions regarding COVID and your student for example:
  • My child is exhibiting these symptoms, should my student stay home or go to school?
  • What if my student may have been exposed to COVID, what do I do?
  • What if someone around us, or my student, has been tested for COVID?
**You can also refer to the T4T plan on the district website
We are now offering rapid testing by appointment only for students and family members who are showing symptoms. Feel free to contact me for more information.
