Dear Friends,
Happy Earth Day! This month marks the 50th Earth Day and 50 years since the Environmental Protection Agency was created. As you may know, April was planned to be jam-packed with clean-ups and other environmental events. Needless to say, those have been postponed until the fall.
I invite you to celebrate Earth Day with me close to home with these events and ideas. Please reply to this email or reach out to me at [email protected] to share any other events or ideas you have with me and I'll be sure to share them on social media.
 April is City Nature Month with iNaturalist
DC area organizers have named April City Nature Month in the DMV. Think of this year's City Nature Challenge as a month-long citizen science experience! Even with our movement limited to minimize the spread of COVID-19, there is plenty to explore. iNaturalist can help us observe nature at windowsills, through the window, in our backyards, on balconies and stoops, and as part of allowed activities such as walks in our neighborhood. Download the iNaturalist app, sign in, explore nature, and share your observations with others. Learn more online. The Prince George's County Sierra Club is hosting a webinar about how to use the iNaturalist app and participate in the iNaturalist Challenge on April 24 at 2:00 pm. Learn more and register here.

Be a Hero of the Anacostia River
The annual AWS Earth Day clean up events will take place on Saturday October 3. However, you can do your part today and every day by picking up litter as you walk around your neighborhood. Be sure to use plastic gloves, or use one plastic bag like a glove to pick up litter and deposit it into another bag for refuse. Remember, litter eventually runs into our waterways if it isn't picked up. You can be a Hero of the Anacostia by picking up litter every day!
Take Advantage of Rain Check Rebate
Prince George's County partners with The Chesapeake Bay Trust on its Rain Check Rebate Program, offering incentives to homeowners, businesses, and others to install practices that will improve stormwater runoff quality, reduce runoff quantity, and improve local streams and rivers.
What this funds: The Rain Check Rebate Program provides eligible applicants the opportunity to receive a reimbursement for installing approved stormwater management practices. Homeowners, businesses, and nonprofit entities can recoup some of the costs of installing practices covered by the program. Learn more and apply today

Pick up and trak litter in your community with PGCLitterTRAK
Download and use PGCLitterTRAK to track litter removed and help DoE develop real-time maps cataloging litter collected throughout the County. Learn more.
 Adopt-A-Stream through the Department of the Environment
DoE encourages residents, businesses, civic organizations and academic institutions to adopt-a-stream to help reduce litter in and around County stream, rivers and other local waterways. Adopt-a-Stream groups can also survey their stream section and notify DoE of pollution and illegal dumping.

Groups or individuals can adopt natural areas throughout Prince George's County. This opportunity requires a two-year commitment; training and materials are provided.
