Cassandra Cicalis - 2020 Student of the Year
The Center for Real Estate is pleased to recognize Cassandra Cicalis class of 2020, as the Center for  Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies, student of the year.  Cassie graduated with a Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies major and Digital Marketing and Analytics minor.   

During her Junior and senior year, Cassie Cicalis was a member of the UCONN National Society of Collegiate Scholars.    She was a real estate society member and served as the secretary in 2019 - 2020.  Cassie also served for three years as a Team Captain  for the HuskyTHON volunteer experience.   While at UConn, Cassie also worked in the Real Estate Center  and participated in three international case competitions  in Toronto, Vancouver and Chicago. In her junior year, Cassie received the Real Estate Center scholarship and the SIOR Samual F. Pierson scholarship in her  senior year.

In the summer of 2017 Cassie interned as an Administrative Assistant with the Law office of Bruce Linsky and Lieberman Law Office.  in 2018, she interned as a Legal Real Estate Transaction Coordinator with Lieberman Law Office, PC.   In summer 2019, Cassie interned with  Barings in Boston, where she worked in Portfolio and Asset Management under Deb Schwartz.  This summer Cassie has taken a position with AEW  and  is excited to begin her career, working as an Acquisitions Analyst under Josh Heller in Boston. 

Ben Goldstein - 2020 Student of the Year
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies is pleased to recognize the 2020 student of the year, Benjamin Goldstein  

Benjamin Goldstein graduated with an Economics major and Real Estate concentration.  Ben served as this year's Real Estate Society President. Serving as Treasurer as a Junior   and President as a Senior.  Ben made significant contributions to the Real Estate Society, as a student leader and bringing in many speakers and representing the Student Society at networking events.  During his time at UConn, Ben was recognized by the ICSC as a National Scholar and won the prestigious John Hart Award. In addition, Ben participated in three international case competitions and was a finalist in Cornell's competition 2018 .   While a student at UConn, Ben has interned for Newmark Knight Frank, CBRE, RMS Companies, FD Rich and FBE Limited over the course of the past four years, working both the summers and remotely while in school.  

This summer, Ben has joined Newmark Knight Frank as a Leasing Advisory Services Associate in Stamford, CT and will work directly with Executive Vice President and Managing Director James Ritman and Managing Director Janey Steinmetz,



Student Internship Highlight - UBS
Two rising seniors, Nick Godfred (Left) & Devin Pallanck (Right) are interns at UBS Realty  Investors in Hartford, CT this summer. UBS Realty provides institutional real estate investment advisory services, as well as specializes in the acquisition, asset/portfolio management,  development, valuation, research, leasing, and disposition of commercial real estate properties around the world. UBS Realty is a global institutional investor  with a diverse portfolio that has given both of them exposure to  various property types such as apartments, office buildings, industrial complexes, retail space, and hotels. 

Nick's role at UBS has given him the opportunity to work closely with asset management and use real estate valuation software such as Argus Enterprise to analyze properties within UBS Realty's portfolio. During his time at UBS, Nick has primarily worked with the valuation team to update and finalize property value changes resulting  from the Covid-19 pandemic. He has also had the opportunity to expand his network, contacting brokers and appraisers from various organizations across the country for research directly relating to a summer-long intern project.

Devin has spent the summer with the Multi Asset Management team while also bouncing around to other departments such as a cquisitions and dispositions. He has consistently been on weekly property calls, analyzing leasing box scores, conducting property forecasts in Argus Enterprise, and practicing revenue management in Real Pages. With acquisitions and dispositions, he is gaining underwriting experience and learning the dynamics between UBS and brokerage companies through BIOP calls. He has been exposed to various markets across the US, including Tampa, Orlando, and New York City. 

Devin and Nick have been working extensively on a summer intern project regarding cold storage & industrial shipping port trends and future outlook. They are grateful for the opportunity to work with UBS Realty and appreciate the time and invaluable firsthand experience!

Summer Internship Highlight - JBG Smith
Kevin Perrone, a senior real estate major is currently interning virtually with JBG Smith, an S&P 400 REIT specializing in high growth mixed-use properties in and around Washington, DC. His tenure as a commercial asset management intern has brought on commercial lease underwriting and analysis as well as the unique opportunity to analyze COVID-19 and return to work data for the entire portfolio totaling over 11M SF. During his time at JBG Smith, Kevin will undergo industry leading fully time analyst training and he looks forward to gaining his Real Estate Financial Modeling (REFM) Excel Certification.
 
As the summer progress's Kevin is eager to continue gaining deeper insight into value-add capital project underwriting and experiencing the collaboration between asset management, development, and construction management teams. Kevin says "I am gratefully to work for such a robust and uniquely positioned firm that has afforded me the opportunity to understand the placemaking that JBG Smith is facilitating as the principal developer for Amazon's HQ2 in the National Landing DC metro." He looks forward to the fall semester and beginning the recruiting season to find the perfect full-service firm to join upon graduation in the spring.

2020 Student Placement
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies has many students who have received full-time or internship placement for 2020, and are still in the process of placing others. Real estate students have or are in the process of completing what many consider to be one of the best academic real estate programs in the country.
