“You will be like a tree, firmly planted by streams of water…whatever you do will prosper” Psalm 1:3
This year in 5th grade we are looking at what it means to ‘be like a tree” as described in Psalm 1:1-3. In order to be firmly planted, we need strong roots in God’s truth, His Story. An essential element of being rooted in God’s truth is an understanding of how all our learning activities form our individual stories, which are part of His grand narrative. These considerations create an essential framework for all our daily activities in 5th grade.
We have looked at how our habits of learning of curious thinking, gracious communicating, joy-filled collaborating, and courageous designing strengthen our roots and help us prosper in our activities. These learning habits, along with good study practices, are all skills our fifth graders have been honing this year through their diligence inside and outside of class. As they mature into these ‘trees planted by streams of water’, they are showing great resilience as they persevere through socially distanced learning and all the unprecedented circumstances this unique year brings. In doing so they are growing into who God has created and is designing them to be.
I have been impressed by their patience and compassion as we face so much change, and incredibly proud of their growth. My deep hope for my students is that they grow in wisdom and confidence of God’s creation through all our learning practices and circumstances. I am grateful for all the opportunities this year brings and look forward to helping my students grow into these beautiful trees the psalmist describes as we work hard together.

Important Notes for When Your Child is Absent |
|
|
|
Dear Families,
As we are well into cold, flu and the holiday season, please remember that when school days are missed for any reason, homework and assignment make-up will be handled just as it would in a ‘normal’ year.
Here are some helpful reminders and tips for if or when your child is absent:
- Teachers are teaching from 8:30am-3pm. While sometimes they are able to send quick emails during the school day, more thoughtful responses or gathering of work takes more time. Their focus and attention is on the instruction of students in the classroom. All teachers will do their best to respond to your emails and questions within a 24-hr period.
- Make up work can be picked up outside the Three Points Office within 24-48 hours. This allows the classroom teacher time to gather the materials and resources. We will have a labeled "incoming" and "outgoing" cooler or bin for your use. Please contact your child's teacher with questions about assignments and when they will be ready for pickup.

No School Wednesday
There will be no school on Nov. 11, as we observe Veterans Day. Thank you to all of our parents and community members who have selflessly served in our military. We appreciate you!

Cell Phones & Safety
Our Elementary Cell Phone Policy states that cell phones are only permitted before and after school. We are very proud of how the majority of our student body does an outstanding job of following this guideline. Please remind and encourage your child to follow this rule.
Additionally, teachers will be talking to all of their students about cell phone use before school starts and after the school day is over:
- All students need to be socially distanced. We've had some instances of students huddling around a student's cell phone. Please remind your child that grouping together in this manner is unsafe and they may be putting themselves or others at risk during this COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Car Chute is a very busy place! To keep all safe and the line flowing, we, for now, are making the Car Chute a "No Phone Zone." We ask that students actively watch for their parent's car to pull up and, do their best to remain socially distanced.
We love our community and want to make sure everyone is doing their part to make Three Points a safe and healthy place. Thank you for your understanding and reminding your children of these guidelines.

The letter ‘I’ was just one featured theme in Mrs. Koorn’s preschool class this week.
The Little Explorers investigated many ways to create, learn about, and play with an ‘I’. They created Zoophonic, ‘Inny the Inchworms’, hunted for Is, tried out words that begin with I, and learned how to sign an I in American Sign Language. Ice cream was a focus of conversation, of course!

Dear Parents,
Your E-Board is constantly exploring ways to bring joy to and connection within our community as we socially distance this year. We hope that you and your children are enjoying the balloons that are sprinkled down the car chute. Let them serve of a reminder of how much we love having you at Three Points!
Reminder:
Your E-Board is hosting a Gathering over Zoom on Nov. 18 and all parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Board members will share their respective roles and speak about our goals and aspirations for the year. This will be a great opportunity for us to see on another face-to-face and cultivate togetherness. We hope that you will join us!

Cold/Flu Season & COVID-19
As we move into cold and flu season this year, symptoms for either can make it confusing and problematic when deciding whether to send your child to school.
A stuffy or runny nose, headache or nausea, for example, are considered COVID-19 symptoms. If your child presents these or other COVID-19 like symptoms, please follow the guidelines provided by King County Public Health to ensure your child can return safely to school.
Note: Out of an abundance of caution, the quickest way for a student to return to school after showing symptoms is to have them tested for COVID-19.
We appreciate your cooperation to keep students, staff and faculty healthy and safe and your partnership to keep school open. Please take a moment to review the two scenarios you may face this school year:
Scenario 1:
If your child has 1 or more COVID-19 symptom(s) and has tested NEGATIVE, s/he can return to school:
1. After 24 hours have passed since fever resolved (without medication) AND
2. Symptoms have improved
If they are a close contact of confirmed COVID-19 case and have a negative test result, they still must quarantine for 14 days.
Proof of negative test is required.
Scenario 2:
If your child has 1 or more COVID symptom(s) and has tested POSITIVE or had NO TEST: s/he can return to school:
1. 10 days after symptoms started AND
2. At least 24 hours have passed since fever resolved (without medication) AND
3. Symptoms have improved
