The end of open enrollment on January 15, 2022, is nearly here, so we are distributing this volume earlier than normal. If you or someone you are working with has questions, concerns or simply needs help with health insurance, forward them our way. Navigators are located statewide to provide this assistance and our services are FREE OF CHARGE!!! Can't get much these days for free, but there it is. The best thing is that most plans, depending on household income, household size and a few other calculations, are costing consumers $50 a month or less!!!!! Affordable health care is available to everyone eligible, and that could be someone close to home, including you or your loved ones.

FOUR THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ADVANCE PAYMENTS OF THE PREMIUM TAX CREDIT WHEN APPLYING FOR MARKETPLACE HEALTH INSURANCE
- If the premium tax credit computed on a return is more than the advance credit payments made on a consumers behalf during the year, the difference will increase the refund or lower the amount of taxes owed.
- If the advance credit payments are more than the amount of the premium tax credit allowed, a portion of the excess advance credit payments made on a consumers behalf will result in either a smaller refund or a larger balance due.
- If advance credit payments are made on behalf of a consumer, and the person does not file a tax return, the consumer will not be eligible for advance credit payments or cost-sharing reductions to help pay for a Marketplace health insurance plan in future years.
- The amount of advance credit payment that a consumer receives is limited based on household income and filing status. There is no longer a cap at the 400% federal poverty line, so persons who were denied in the past may very well be eligible now for the Advance Premium Tax Credits and affordable health care.

42 children are hit by a car every day
in the United States
|
|
Whether children are walking or biking to school or just going outside to stretch and play, Safe Kids encourages all parents and caregivers to share the following tips for walking to and from school safely:
- Teach kids to look left, right and left again before crossing the street. Then remind them to continue looking until safely across.
- Teach kids to put phones, headphones and other devices down when crossing the street. It is particularly important to reinforce this message with teenagers.
- It’s always best to walk on sidewalks or paths and cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible.
- Children under 10 need to cross the street with an adult. Every child is different, but developmentally, most kids are unable to judge the speed and distance of oncoming cars until age 10.
- Be a good role model. Set a good example by putting your phone, headphones and devices down when walking around cars.
- Only cross train tracks at a designated crossing marked by a sign, lights or a gate. Trains may be closer and faster than you think, so it’s never OK to rush across and try to beat the train. Also, avoid the temptation to walk along the train tracks. It might be a shortcut, but it is dangerous and not worth the risk.
