The September "Ask the Arbitrator" event "People at Work - A Construction Arbitrator's Tale" will be an interview with Albert Bates, Jr. FCIArb moderated by NAB Board Member Christopher Campbell, on Wednesday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m. EDT/10:00 a.m. PDT. "Ask the Arbitrator" will present hour-long sessions of light-hearted conversations with seasoned international arbitrators that are not only fun, but also substantive, with a focus on how to break into the field of international arbitration. Several events are happening in Atlanta from September 12-14 as part of the 11th Annual AtlAS Conference and are detailed on the Atlanta International Arbitration Society’s website http://arbitrateatlanta.org/11th-annual-atlas-conference/. There will be three days of events, opening with a young practitioners' panel (co-branded with the ICC YAAF and the AtlAS YPG) followed by four discussion session panels, a happy hour, and a speaker's dinner on September 12. NAB and CPR Dispute Resolution Services LLC (CPR) are presenting a two-day Accelerated Route to Fellowship (International Arbitration) Assessment (ARF) course on October 7 (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET) and October 8 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET) at the offices of Williams & Connolly in Washington DC. The ARF is designed for practitioners with substantial experience in the field of dispute resolution, typically those with at least 10 years’ experience in complex litigation and/or ADR. NAB‘s Capacity Sharing Program (CSP) is back! CSP promotes domestic and international arbitration through education and networking programs with the University of Miami School of Law as an educational partner. CIArb-CSP 2022 (again hosted with the Brazil Branch) is hybrid. We are pleased to return to different cities in Brazil for CIArb-CSP 2022 with a hybrid format, which will enable us to reach even more ADR and arbitration practitioners and academicians. Brazil has had substantial ADR promotion in recent decades, but some areas in Central Northeast and Northern Brazil may lag behind. CIArb-CSP 2022 will be in João Pessoa on August 27 (in-person only) and virtually and in-person in Goiania and Manaus from October 10-14, 2022, just before the Sao Paulo Arbitration Week. This exciting program will cover a range of topics related to arbitration, with a faculty composed of leading figures in the field of international and Brazilian arbitration. NAB will hold a Members’ Retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico from Friday, April 14 - Sunday, April 16, 2023. The event will take place at the Inn and Spa at Loretto near the Plaza in Santa Fe. Full details are still being planned and will be announced by the Fall of 2022. It will be a chance to meet and network with other NAB members and enjoy the culture and sights of Santa Fe, New Mexico. There will also be some educational opportunities. Alden L. Atkins (Washington, D.C.)
Alden is an advocate and arbitrator of complex commercial disputes with more than three decades of experience in international arbitrations, domestic arbitrations and federal and state courts in the United States. He is a partner in Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. in its Washington, DC office. His wide-ranging experience includes competition, class actions, contract, fiduciary duty, intellectual property, products liability, regulatory and statutory matters in the airline, auto parts, chemical, electric generation, energy, finance, government contracts, LNG, pipeline, project finance, technology and railroad industries, among others. He is a Fellow in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a member of the CPR Energy Panel, the AAA and the ICDR. Mark is the leader of the BakerHostetler LLP’s International Arbitration and Litigation team, co-leader of the International Asset Tracing and Recovery team, and first-chair arbitration and litigation counsel and arbitrator on complex international commercial and financial disputes. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, on the Advisory Board to the CPR President, an advisor to Restatement (Fourth) of Foreign Relations Law, and a member of the ICDR, AAA and CPR arbitration panels. Judith Meyer (Philadelphia, PA & Ketchum, ID)
Judith is a Fellow in the CCA [www.ccarbitrators.org]; a Distinguished Neutral in the IAM [www.iamed.org]; and a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. She taught negotiation, mediation and arbitration at Cornell Law School. She won the 2016 Pennsylvania Bar Association award for Excellence in ADR. She serves as a JPT for the Philadelphia Commerce Court. She was a Referee in the Reliance Insurance Liquidation. She has arbitrated more than 1000 commercial claims involving partnership and corporate dissolution, shareholder oppression, contract breach and disputes in the insurance, pharmaceutical, construction, franchise, financial and medical services industries. She writes and lectures frequently on all topics ADR.

Peter Neumann (Los Angeles, CA)
Peter brings over 25 years of international corporate and business law experience to his practice as an international arbitrator and mediator. He has practiced law in Greater China for over 20 years, honing Chinese language and cross-cultural skills essential to effectively and efficiently resolving complex cross-border disputes. His expertise encompasses M&A, FDI, corporate law and governance, PE/VC, compliance and international trade and procurement in the general manufacturing, technology, chemicals, software, and hospitality industries. Peter is a panel arbitrator of the HKIAC (List), KCAB International, SHIAC, CIETAC, SCIA, HIAC, FINRA, and LACBA ACMAS, and is the CIArb NAB Los Angeles Chapter Chair. Les Schiefelbein (San Francisco, CA)
Les is an internationally recognized Arbitrator and Mediator with 35 years of industry and government experience in international and domestic legal and business matters as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Lockheed Martin and as an Air Force Judge Advocate Reserve (Colonel). Les has handled over 400 cases in his career and is recognized for expertise in aerospace, aviation, national security and technology matters. Les is a founding member and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center. He serves on the Panel of Arbitrators of global and domestic dispute resolution centers. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the College of Commercial Arbitrators and a USA Subcommittee Member for the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge. Tom is an attorney, mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, and trainer. He practices in all aspects of Dispute Resolution. Tom has an interest in understanding the issues raised with cross-cultural disputes. He has travelled extensively to train and teach courses in Negotiation, Mediation and Arbitration. He helps people and companies resolve their disputes and has complete online capability. He serves domestically and internationally on numerous Mediation and Arbitration panels.
