The Book Fair runs from Nov. 8-13, but there is a need for volunteers to set up on Nov. 7 and to pack up on Nov. 14. There are options to volunteer for set up, clean up, cashier after school and two evenings, and cashier both Saturday and Sunday morning. I hope you will take a moment to find a spot that fits your schedule.

Let's Do Lunch!

Week of 10/17 - 10/21

October is the month of "lunches"!

We invite YOU to enjoy lunch with your child in the lunchroom during his/her lunch period!

Treasure these times with your child before they grow up and head on to high school!

Up to 4 parents per class will have the opportunity to sit with their child and their classmates.

Parents (or any adult) must be

Child Protection compliant.

Also, because of food allergies, we ask that no food is brought in for other students.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to you taking advantage

of this wonderful time with your child!

Get at least 9 hours of sleep per night

Sleep is the single most effective thing you can do to reset the health of your brain and body”

According to the National Sleep Foundation, adolescents should get 9 to 11 hours of sleep and teens should get at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep per day, and younger children should get even more

  • Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours
  • School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours
  • Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours
  • Younger adults (18-25): Sleep range is 7-9 hours (new age category)
  • Adults (26-64): Sleep range did not change and remains 7-9 hours
  • Older adults (65+): Sleep range is 7-8 hours (new age category)

Click on this link to read a good short article with short videos on sleep benefits for children.

Why is adequate sleep important to children’s health?

  • Promotes enhanced memory and neuropsychological functioning in children
  • Improves behavior and school performance
  • Helps create and maintain good relations with others
  • Research has linked inadequate sleep with a higher risk for childhood obesity: A recent study found that with each extra hour of sleep, the risk of a child being overweight or obese dropped by 9%

Top tips for children and adolescents to get more sleep:

  • Teach school age children about lifelong healthy sleep habits
  • Continuously emphasize the need for a regular sleep schedule and bedtime routine. Don’t use sleep as a punishment
  • Make sure your child’s bedroom is conducive towards sleep- dark shades, cool, quiet and without a TV, computer, iPad
  • Avoid giving children caffeine: Chocolate or caffeine containing snacks close to bedtime
  • Know the signs of sleep-deprivation in your child: Adults get sleepy, but kids “tend to be more hyper, inattentive, irritated and annoyed.”
  • Monitor your child for difficulty breathing, unusual nighttime awakenings, chronic sleep problems, behavioral problems during the day and frequent daytime sleepiness.
