District-Operated High Schools Ranked Among Tops in the Nation According to U.S. News & World Report |

Each year, U.S. News & World Report issues rankings of America's Best Public High Schools, incorporating data on nearly 24,000 public, charter, magnet and STEM-focused high schools in the fifty states and District of Columbia. The Best High Schools rankings identify the country's top-performing public high schools. The rankings are designed to provide a clear, unbiased picture of how well public schools serve all of their students – from the highest to lowest achieving – in preparing them to demonstrate proficiency in basic skills as well as readiness for college-level work.
The Martin County School District is proud to announce that each of its District-operated high schools - Jensen Beach High School (#1,856 in the U.S., #108 in Florida), Martin County High School (#4,323 in the U.S., #217 in Florida) and South Fork High School (#4,271 in the U.S., #215 in Florida) - have been ranked among the top 20% of high schools in the nation this year.

High School Students Participate in 6th Annual Constitutional Academic Competition |

On April 27, 2021, teams of students from Jensen Beach High School, Martin County High School and South Fork High School participated in the final round of this year's Constitutional Academic Competition, vying for college scholarships issued by Martin County's Center for Constitutional Values (CCV). Now in its sixth year, the CCV's Constitutional Academic Competition enables Youth in Government students to research a designated constitutional issue and present their arguments in a debate-style format before sitting jurists.
The final round of interschool competition required students to debate which approach to judicial interpretation of the Constitution - originalism or living - provides the strongest protection of inherent rights.
Judging the debates were the Honorable Alan Forst of the 4th District Court of Appeals, the Honorable Darren Steele of the 19th Judicial Circuit Court and the Honorable James McCann, who recently retired from the 19th Judicial Circuit Court. Dr. Mark Malham, Coordinator of Social Studies and Special Projects for the Martin County School District, served as the moderator.
After each of the three teams presented their cases, the judges issued the South Fork High School team of Kyle Ramos and Graeson Gajewski the first-place award and two scholarships worth $1,000 each. The Martin County High School team of Jordan LoSardo and Jillian Plymale earned second-place honors with corresponding scholarships of $500 each. The Jensen Beach High School team of Shea Powers and Emily Sarkar took third-place, earning scholarships valued at $250 each.
The awarded scholarships were funded using donations the CCV collected from generous individuals and organizations located in Martin County and beyond.

School Board Approves One-Time Bonuses for Eligible Employees Who Work Summer Programs |

On Tuesday, April 27, the Martin County School Board voted unanimously to approve the funding of one-time, lump-sum bonuses of up to $1,000 (subject to required taxes) for bargaining unit-eligible employees who work a District-approved summer program assignment during the month of June.
"We are extremely proud of all of our teachers and support staff who have dedicated themselves to our mission of educating all students for success in this unprecedented school year," Superintendent John D. Millay said. "As the District continues preparing for summer instruction and other enrichment opportunities to address gaps and prevent learning loss, we recognize the importance of providing our bargaining unit-eligible employees with the opportunity to earn additional compensation for continuing to serve our students and schools during the month of June."
The language approved by the AFSCME Local 597 and Martin County Education Association (MCEA) employee unions will allow bargaining unit- eligible employees of the District to receive a rate of $9.25/hour above their summer school rate of pay (hourly rate + 5%) up to a maximum of $1,000 for hours worked during the time period of June 2 - July 1, 2021. Eligible employees who are interested in participating in summer programs should complete the electronic survey via the link distributed by the District.

Indiantown Middle School's Voracious Readers Honored With Delicious Meal |

For the fifth consecutive year, Indiantown Middle School (IMS) students who have made reading their personal priority have been treated to a celebratory meal at the famed Seminole Inn in the Village of Indiantown.
School Board Member Christia Li Roberts (District 1) has made a tradition of treating Indiantown Middle's "Voracious Readers" to an afternoon of great conversation and a delicious meal. Students who attended this year's luncheons on April 28 and 29 read at least ten Sunshine State Young Reader (SSYR) titles or were members of the school's Book Club. This year, Superintendent John D. Millay and IMS Media Specialist June Parrilli also dined with the students. The children were extremely eager to discuss the books they had read and what they learned with Dr. Millay, Ms. Roberts and Ms. Parilli. At the conclusion of the meals, Ms. Roberts presented each student with a thesaurus to support them as they continue to build their vocabularies.

Elementary Artists Honored for Creative Tag Art |
|
The Martin County School District proudly partnered with the Martin County Tax Collector's Office to host the annual Kids Tag Art (KTA) competition earlier this school year. All fifth-grade art students participated in the competition, using their artistic talents to create vanity license plates and keyfobs for purchase by the community.
All proceeds from tag art and keyfob sales will be donated back to District elementary schools in support of arts-related programs. To purchase a vanity plate or keyfob, please click here. Through the sale of students' creations, the Martin County Tax Collector's Office has donated more than $8,000 to local elementary schools since the program's inception in 2018.

Martin County High School Artists Shine During District 18 Congressional Art Competition |
|
Each year, participating Members of Congress hold a competition to showcase the artistic talent of students who live in their districts. The winning piece is displayed for one year in an exhibit located in the Cannon tunnel at the U.S. Capitol.
On Monday, April 26, Congressman Brian Mast announced the winners of the District 18 Congressional Art Competition. Martin County High School students swept the contest, earning the top three awards and also taking first place for the third time in four years. Read more...

Our Dollars, Our District: Status of Jensen Beach Elementary, Palm City Elementary Replacement Projects |

In November 2018, Martin County voters generously approved a half-cent sales tax increase for the purpose of funding critical capital projects throughout the District. Two major projects that are being addressed using funds generated by the half-cent sales tax increase are the complete replacements of Jensen Beach and Palm City elementary schools.

May's Parent University Workshop to Feature Exceptional Student Education Department |

This month's Parent University Workshop will be held Tuesday, May 6, at 6:00 p.m. Representatives of the Exceptional Student Education Department will present information on the programs and services available to students.
Parents/guardians who would like the opportunity to ask questions live must register for the session by clicking here. Parents/guardians may also access the live stream via YouTube, but will be unable to submit questions via this platform.

As Dr. Seuss famously shared, "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." Guest readers throughout the Martin County School District are doing just that as part of an early childhood story time initiative.
Families of toddlers and preschool-aged children are invited to join us on Facebook Live each Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. for story time. Principals, District staff and members of the community will read an engaging story to your child while also sharing an activity for the two of you to complete together. It's a great way for toddlers, preschoolers and their families to get to know the administration and local leaders who serve their home-zoned school before they start VPK or kindergarten!

If your child or anyone in the household is symptomatic, awaiting test results or has tested positive for COVID-19, your child must stay home from school and refrain from participating in activities (sports, clubs, gatherings, etc.) outside of your home. Please continue to monitor your child's symptoms each day using one of the screening tools shown below.

Students are eligible to participate in remote learning only in the following scenarios:
· A parent/guardian has registered them for the remote learning option with their school and they are successfully making adequate progress
· They are currently following quarantine or isolation protocols at the direction of DOH Martin or a healthcare professional
· They are sick and staying home due to symptoms, but are well enough to participate in remote learning from home temporarily. Students must provide a note from their parent or physician if they will be temporarily participating in remote learning due to illness
· They or a member of the household is awaiting testing results or has tested positive for COVID-19
