Hello Class of 2024,

It's finally November! We hope you had a fantastic Halloween and made out well post-Hurricane Zeta. With just a little over a month left for the semester, we hope you all find the time to make the most of the year. Take the time to check your schedules, check in with your circles, study for your exams, or catch some extra zzz's.

Yesterday, members of our nation participated in Election Day. Please, be mindful that this time can be an anxious and tenuous time for members of our community. Give them space to process anything and reach out to see if you can provide them with anything they may need. At the same time, take care of your own needs. Check out the information below from the Counseling Center on ways to take care of yourself during this time. If this was your first time voting, CONGRATULATIONS!

This has been one of the strangest years you may have ever experienced - but you did it! Your adaptability, resilience, and perseverance made it all possible.

Election Season!

The 2020 Election Season may be stressful for many students. The Counseling Center is aware of how patterns and events in our world can be mentally challenging and at times, emotionally overwhelming as students are also maintaining academic responsibilities. Below are some strategies to help you manage any election stress and anxiety and to help you get through the days ahead.

In general:
  • Set limits on media/social media
  • Set boundaries with friends/family who have differing political beliefs
  • Surround yourself with supportive community
  • Make space for your big emotions (e.g., anger, fear, sadness)
  • Take care of your body (regular sleep, eating healthy, exercise, etc.)
  • Express gratitude
  • Meditation/Mindfulness
  • Do something energizing - go for a nature walk, dance, play, learn a new skill
  • Restore - Get rest, eat well, drink plenty of water
  • Be still - Find a quiet place to just be as you are and breathe
  • Listen to your favorite music playlist (if you do not have one make one)
If politically active:
  • Know what role you want to play
  • Set clear, realistic goals and start small
  • Celebrate successes, no matter how small they seem
  • Recognize ALL the things that make your life meaningful
  • Look to those who inspire you
  • Find a mantra or an affirmation that makes you feel empowered or at peace
