MSAP Funding Update
The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education has reported out a bill that keeps MSAP funding level to this year — at $107 million. What we’re hearing through our visits on the Hill is that the Senate steered all increases for education to fund the wall. We will continue monitoring how the Senate and the House will handle compromise language. This will be happening before it comes to the Senate floor. Please keep an eye out for MSA Member alerts as we may need all hands on deck to reach out to your Members of Congress.

Hanging on the media building at Coronado Elementary School is a prominent navy and gold emblem – clearly marking a distinction of some kind.

That emblem is the Magnet Schools of America national certification seal.

As principal Nathaniel Kuster notes, it’s a source of pride for the Coronado Caballeros, especially because Coronado was the first school in the state to get the certification, according to Albuquerque Public Schools.
Leticia Cuevas, a Coronado Elementary kindergarten teacher, conducts a lesson recently for her students. The Downtown magnet school, which has just achieved national certification, focuses on bilingual education. (Adolphe Pierre-Louis/Albuquerque Journal)
The recognition is billed as a way to honor “the best of the best.” ( Read more )
