Happy Labor Day!
All HISD campuses will be closed this Monday. Students will return to campus Tuesday, September 6th. Have a great 3 day weekend!
Important:
Returning Student Verification Form.

Beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2022, HISD will launch our Annual Student Verification via the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

The online application allows parents to verify their home address, phone number, email address, complete annual forms and add/update emergency contacts, which will be auto-delivered directly to HISD Connect.

HISD families are asked to complete the online Student Verification form. The Student Verification form includes annual acknowledgments and general updates, such as contact information and student health information.

For current students returning to HISD for the 2022-2023 school year, Student Verification forms will be completed via the HISD Connect Parent Portal Account.
Tutorial and Testing Schedule
Students are encouraged to attend tutorial sessions and reach out to teachers for student conferences and retakes during Cardinal Hour. Students, remember there is a bell that rings between the Red and White blocks to help you manage your time.

Club Meeting Schedule
Parents, it's important for students to join and connect with at least one organization on campus; please follow up with your student and ask them what they are interested in and what they have signed up to try. Click here to reference our Club Guide from last year. A new guide will be published in September with additional clubs and updated information.

Students can also find a club to join by looking at the meeting schedule for the next two weeks: Click here to view the schedule!

Please see Ms. Chapman in room 2712 or email her at [email protected] with any questions about getting involved with clubs!
Home Lunch Permits
Juniors and Seniors, who have approved Home Lunch Permits, may visit their Assistant Principal to receive their permit. If you are a Junior or Senior and you have not submitted an application, Click here.

Once a Home Lunch Permit is submitted, the Assistant Principal will check the student's academic/discipline status and verify permission with the parent. Students should monitor their HISD email for an approval notice from their Assistant Principal. Once approved, students will receive an ID that indicates that they can leave campus during Cardinal Hour. A student must show their ID to leave campus.
Food Deliveries
We encourage students to bring their lunch or to eat a meal that our cafeteria prepares.
Food deliveries for students during Cardinal Hour are permitted with the following conditions:

  • The address used for all deliveries should be 5100 Maple Street.
  • Food Deliveries are only permitted during the specified window during Cardinal Hour.
  • Orders may arrive and be processed up to 10 minutes prior (12:20pm) to Cardinal Hour beginning.
  • Delivery drivers will pull up by the gate at the Bus Drive off Maple Street.
  • Delivery orders will be accepted by Bellaire Faculty and placed in alphabetical order on storage units.
  • Deliveries should be picked up on the porch outside of the Cardinal’s Nest by the Cottage.
  • To pick up an order, a receipt must be shown.
  • Deliveries will stop being accepted 10 minutes before Cardinal Hour ends (1:10pm).
  • Deliveries of any kind are not allowed during the school day or at any other time without prior administrative approval.
  • Delivery orders are placed at the risk of the individual ordering.

Bellaire High School does not assume responsibility for any order placed. A student placing a delivery order outside the established window for delivery, will not be allowed to pick up the order and may face disciplinary action.
Traffic Patterns Around Bellaire - Thank You for Your Patience
Arrival
The City of Bellaire has asked that we remind students to walk on sidewalks and to observe all posted parking signage and ordinances. When crossing S. Rice at the lights, it is also important to watch the signals and only enter the street when the light indicates it's a crossing period. Maple Street continues to be our heaviest traveled road. The sidewalk on the north side of Maple has been opened up all the way to Ferris.

Parents, please do not attempt to pull into the parking garage to drop off or pick up a student. Parking in the garage is by permit only.

Dismissal
Students may exit the building through any door on campus. Dismissal is at 4:10 pm. Please arrange a pickup location with your child prior to drop off.
Open House
Please mark your calendars for Open House. We will get started at 6:00 pm in the auditorium, and then once released, parents will follow their student's schedules and meet each of their teachers.

Save These Dates Too:

ID Pictures - New System!
We have IDs printed for all 11 and 12 grade students that have submitted pictures, or who had a yearbook photo on file.
Students that have not submitted ID pictures are encouraged to check their HISD email and follow the directions to upload their choice of ID picture. Guidelines:
  • Pictures should be a simple headshot
  • Plain background
  • No hats or sunglasses
  • No hand gestures or signs
All pictures will be screened and approved before an ID is printed. Students are encouraged to submit their pictures now so that all ID badges will be ready for pick-up during Back to School Check-In. Please note that all students will be required to wear their Student ID this year and for it to be visible.

When looking in email, students should search for an email sent from CardExchange Cloud or Aurora. The subject line is “Your account has been created.” and was sent to students accounts on August 4th. Students that enrolled after August 4 will submit their information to their Advocacy Teacher on Monday, Aug. 22 and a account will be created for them.

We know that it is going to take time to have 100% of our IDs printed and distributed from our new system.

Students that have been issued an ID are expected to be wearing them while on campus. We will begin ID checks next week.

If you have a question or encounter a problem uploading your picture, please email [email protected].
We are Looking for a Golf Cart!
As you dig around your garage or help a friend declutter, keep an eye out for a usable golf cart that could find a new home within the Bellaire parking garage. Your treasure could help us supervise around campus as we near the completion of our 2012 construction project. We look forward to hearing from you via email Mr. Lloyd.

Library News & Events
As we move closer to the opening of Bellaire HS Library, Ms. Carpenter wants to share some successes from this week that will help shine a light on everything Library services are doing to get ready. See the graphic above for some amazing statistics related to BHS Library services.

Library events you might want to take advantage of in the Community:

Friends of HPL is hosting their monthly book sale THIS SATURDAY, September 3rd from 10 am until 2 pm at the Friends of HPL Warehouse located at 6510 W. Little York Rd, next to the Chase bank.

All children’s books are $1
Paperback books are $2
Hardback books are $3

This is a great opportunity to get books for all ages and at discounted prices. While we have limited collection available through the school library, taking advantage of the public library offerings is always encouraged!
  • Sept 8th - Kindred Stories hosting an in person event with Tiffany Jackson about her new YA novel, The Weight of Blood
On Thursday, September 8, Kindred Stories is hosting an in-person talk with New York Times best-selling author Tiffany Jackson as she celebrates the release of her newest Young Adult thriller, The Weight of Blood. Tiffany Jackson is a teen favorite, and I’m sure many of your students have read either Monday’s Not ComingAllegedlyWhite Smoke, or Grown. In store, we call Tiffany the “Queen of the Plot Twist” as her books are always suspenseful and often leave us wanting more.

Here’s a fun article to read if you’re unfamiliar with Tiffany’s work:

If you are interested in attending Register here- They are offering teachers and students a free ticket to the event with discount code FUTURE.
