Dear Frie nds of The Blue Purl,

Have you ever considered how much knitting has in common with baseball?
Let us explain.

  • Both depend on individual skills.

  • Both require a lot of practice.

  • Both benefit from teamwork – and coaching.

  • And both are back!

Baseball will return for a 60 game season. And The Blue Purl is opening its doors.

Ok, so both in a rather limited way, but step by step, life is coming back.
Please, please, remember that we must still all be mindful. The virus remains with us, and so we must continue best practices. We must wear masks, physically distance, and sterilize our hands.

But, and this is a good but, we are excited to once again welcome you through our front door (only 3 at a time) into the shop for limited hours. You can touch the yarn again, to see if it is what you are looking for (just please don’t rub it on your face, no, really.)

There will be only two employees in the shop to help, so we will wind yarn when we can - it may take a seperate pick up. Unfortunately, we can not yet open the tables for knitting or fix mistakes, but we hope that will come in time, too.

If you are not yet comfortable with coming in, we understand, no worries, we will serve you from the door. Honestly, we are more than happy—delighted actually – to do whatever we can to make this as pleasant and fulfilling as possible for you.

So we can meet you at the table, bring yarn to you at the door, or if you prefer, work with you by phone.

These are challenging times. But let’s be clear:
We are in this together. We are stronger together. Let's stay safe together

Thank you,

connect + create
Patty & Wendy

This year's sweater is Soundtrack, knit in Kelbourne Scout. Soundtrack can be knit in any DK weight, with basic mosaic colorwork for the contrast color, this is a good advanced beginner project.

The pattern will release on July 1st and the knit along runs until August 1st. Pattern is available on Ravelry for pre-purchase. It'll be in your Ravelry library on the release date- July 1st.

What: It's a virtual Knit-Along, come join the fun! Compare notes, colors, techniques & Liz will be there if you want advice, but not teach.
When: Wednesdays, 7pm-8pm, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, & July 29
How: in a Zoom room. Email or call us to sign up. We'll send zoom sign-in credentials ahead of the 1st meeting.

Want some ideas for your Soundtrack Sweater? Check out these Scout combos. Sweater quantities of Scout can be found in our online shop. The combo with self striping Edition 3 would mimic more complicated colorwork.
Want a superwash or hand dyed option for the Soundtrack sweater? We expect a shipment of Tosh DK in sweater quantities to arrive in early July. We don't have a definitive delivery date yet, so it may not arrive until after the knit along starts, but it's tentatively expected in the first week of July. If you'd like to preorder these, please email or call the shop to prepurchase these colors.

On the Beach by Isabell Kraemer
On the Beach by Isabell Kraemer is a great advanced beginner sweater pattern and what's even better? It's free on Ravelry! Knit in sport weight, this would be great in Shibui Fern or Kelbourne Mojave. Want to use it as a beach coverup like Tam's version? Try an open or looser gauge knit with Shibui Reed, Shibui Pebble or Dandoh Silk+ Held single, it would be a very open & airy pullover. Or you can hold the yarns double for a tighter gauge as the pattern intended but the silk blends of these yarns would be still be cool and drapey.
Check out our favorite Shibui Pebble colors from the Julie Hoover collection for this top.

If you need more quantities than listed online, please email us at info@thebluepurl.com .
Crochet Corner- Sunblink Scrunchie
Who doesn't love a cute and colorful scrunchie?! Make it for yourself or a friend, these would be a quick crochet project to keep that beach hair tamed.

The Sunblink Scrunchie is in the latest issue of Pom Pom Magazine.

We have great selection of summery DK yarn for this- Cascade Sarasota or Ultra Pima , Sublime Isla or Rowan Creative Linen .

Try Dan Doh Silk+ for a thinner version.

Call or e mail us to get quantities not listed on the online shop yet!

A little help from our friends at Berroco
Dropshipping
From Berroco: We are aware that many of our LYS have had to temporarily close their doors for their safety in accordance with regulations from their governors. We recognize it's a difficult time for many of our brick and mortar shops. Many shops are transitioning to curbside and e-commerce options but we wanted to help them offer something more! We are happy to introduce Berroco 123 DropShip, to ship Berroco yarns directly to your home.

Isn't that great! Here (click in) is how it works ... you find what you want and then call us and we'll place your order and they'll ship it. This week's drop ship free patterns are the Odele and Antilles sweaters. Both sweaters are worked in Liana, a linen/nylon blend. Originally, the Odele sweater was knit with Mykonos but has now been reworked with Liana. The Antilles sweater is crocheted in Liana, showing off colorful yarn at its best.

Call us- 973 377-5648 or email to get the free pattern with yarn purchase through us.

I know many of you are makers and have already sewed up a bunch of masks. BUT maybe you know someone who really needs to make a few - sans sewing, a t-shirt can do a handful! This is a great DIY video my kids could achieve.
