Life in Christ Includes Praise and Lament

Though we may prefer to think of God giving us lives of joy and ease, a full life following Jesus also includes sorrow and grief. To the extent we are willing to acknowledge God's presence in every circumstance, our faith becomes integrated and sustainable through a lifetime.

Does our worship have a blind spot? Do we avoid faithful lament? Marked by transformation as clear and life and death (Romans 6), the disciple naturally embodies the gospel of Jesus Christ. Like it or not, this includes moments of sadness, grief, and betrayal that were very much a part of Jesus' faithful journey. If our lives are identified as following Jesus in the Way of Love, we as disciples, can name both joys and sorrows as dimensions of Jesus' story and purpose.

The greatest challenge of faith for most Christians is the moment of suffering, so Sunday invites us to practice faithful lament. In an age of denial when difficult things are swept under the rug, we may resist the idea that God wants anything to do with suffering. Our scriptures, however, ensure we do not avoid earth-bound realities.

Worship calls us to faithfully lament as well as praise. Let our online gathering Sunday be a service of full-hearted proclamation of the depths of life in Christ. [Sundays and Seasons, 2020]

In Christ,
Bill+

Celebrating Dani Pearson's 104th Birthday

On Monday, June 22nd Florence "Dani" Pearson celebrated her 104th birthday. It seems like yesterday we celebrated her 100th birthday at Inn on Main and O Bistro Restaurant & Events Barn with an ice cream social. Because we could not gather in person, a birthday parade with dozens of people passed her home on Bassett Road. Unfortunately she had a medical incident and was subsequently transported to Huggins Hospital. We are grateful for parishioners with medical experience including nurses Gail Dietzer and Terri White, and Dr. Lee White who cared for Dani. She is grateful for the prayers and birthday wishes so many shared in person and on social media.

Jack and Alyce Ferguson won for Best Banner!

Double birthday wishes from Janie Newcomb.

Terri White won Best Sign contest!

Seconds after leaving the parking lot, the sign flew out of her hand and had to be rescued from the middle of a very busy North Main Street! LOL!!

From Cate McMahon
Dear brother and sister parishioners,

As we approach "high season" in Wolfeboro and vicinity, I would like to give thanks for the faithful ministries of our rector, Pastor Bill, our senior warden and vestry, parish staff, and all parish leaders.

Pastor Bill's hands-on, can-do approach amid the many restrictions due to the pandemic has been nothing short of inspirational in holding us together, a little lifeboat for our congregation. Bill has used all available avenues - from mailings to our homes, to live Sunday morning worship via FaceBook, to Zoom meetings for parish committees and study groups - to communicate with parishioners. To further support us, Bill has established Zoom times for "check-in" on Monday mornings, Wine and Whine with favorite beverage on Friday afternoons; and Sunday coffee hour 30 minutes after the livestream Morning Prayer and preaching. All these things continue to nourish us with Word and teaching, prayer and fellowship, and even liturgical touches, like the red draping around Bill's office during the Pentecost live-stream worship!

Like most of us, I do miss the full liturgy, sacrament and community of our more usual Sundays at church. But I think what we are doing together now has its own sacramentality.

And, we are all at liberty to break bread at table in our homes and remember Jesus giving his life for us. That kind of table fellowship, practiced as a memorial among the earliest followers of Christ, pre-dated the more structured rituals we now observe in our church buildings. Miriam Therese Winter, a Catholic sister, talks about this as a "small-e" eucharist when we do it today.

But in the meantime, let us participate in all the revised parish life that we can and be thankful as we wait in joyful hope for a larger reunion.

Connect With God & With Others
"...have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for him to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought in with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not find God." -Alice Walker

The church is where God's people-YOU-are. While we are in exile in our homes, we don't need to go to church to find God, because when we are church together on-line we share God. There are many ways to connect, to see, hear and share God online at All Saints'...

Not sure how to connect via Zoom?
During this time of disconnect due to Covid-19, All Saints' is utilizing Zoom for many gatherings.
From Sunday Virtual Coffee Hour, to Bible Studies, Zoom will allow our congregation to connect live and face-to-face, while following the social guidelines set in place by our government. Here are the steps for participating via computer or telephone:

  1. You will find a link to the event and an I.D. number and password. (Note: The FIRST time you open a Zoom link, it will prompt you to download the app. This is FREE. Please follow the instructions given to install.)
  2. Each Zoom event that you open will ask for the I.D. number and password.
  3. For any video/visual participation, you will need a camera either on your phone, or on your computer. If you do not have one, the invitation email you receive will provide instructions for calling in on your phone.
  4. We encourage participants to mute yourself unless you have an opportunity to speak. Household noises can often times be a distraction to others. If you would like to get your Zoom account set up ahead of time, visit https://zoom.us/.

Troubleshooting:
  1. If you log in and no one else is in the gathering, double check to make sure you have the right date and time; if you do, it's likely that you've clicked/entered the wrong link/address. Each meeting has its own link/address and only works for that gathering. Note: some gatherings use a "wait room" and the host will let you in.
  2. If you get connected but can't seem to connect audio, try using "chat" (link at the bottom of the screen) to ask for help.
  3. If you can only see one person, try clicking on the "speaker view" button on the top and switch it to "gallery view" to see all participants.
  4. If your internet connection fails and you get knocked off, simply join back in. It happens.
  5. If you're stuck, contact the event host/leader.

Thank You for Giving During This Time of Pandemic

Thank you for all who have continued to support the work of All Saints during this time. You may make contributions by mail, using your financial institution's automated check writing service, or secure online giving via  Donate

Creator of all we enjoy, we give you thanks for the countless people you have gathered to do your work as All Saints' Wolfeboro. We thank you for your Holy Spirit inspiring some as they longed for this church, others as they built this church and still others as they lovingly and boldly led this church through times of abundance and times of scarcity. Help us to be bold as we model giving of time and money during this time. Make our generous giving a symbol of both our faith and our gratitude. We pray in the name of your son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
You Make A Difference

Is there an exceptional All Saints' volunteer we should recognize? Please share any recognition recommendations with our Senior Warden Carolyn Sundquist or Pastor Bill to bring to the Vestry for consideration. Who can we give thanks for the blessings they have shared with our congregation?

God Loves You!
