Volume 8 - Week of April 26, 2021

Dear GCNYC Community,

I hope you are all well and looking ahead to a great week.

As we begin Tri-C, we have several events planned throughout this term which I am excited to share with you.

I have heard your requests to gain more experience and knowledge about the sustainability management and consulting space and am happy to share Lauren Hood, Sustainability Consultant at Corporate Citizenship, will be joining us for our next installment of Career Conversations this Thursday. We are going to discuss and breakdown what it took for her to transition from Production and Sustainability Manager at Mara Hoffman to the world of consulting. See below for registration details.

Mark your calendars May 18 for the following Career Conversation with GCNYC alumna Shannon Welch, Sustainability Division Director at Chapter 2 Agency and Director of Strategic Initiatives & Creative Partnerships for Fashion Revolution USA!

The Center for Social Impact and Innovation has a series of amazing flagship programming for this term, kicking off May 13 with The Frontline of Fashion: Imagining an Equitable Future for Retail Workers. Alumna Mia Lupo and I have collected an exciting panel of experts including Ron Thurston, VP of Stores at Intermix and author of Retail Pride: The Guide to Celebrating Your Accidental Career; Scot Case, VP of CSR and Sustainability for the National Retail Federation; Chelsea Connor, Director of Communications and Media Relations for the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union; and Stephanie Luce, Professor of labor studies at the CUNY Joseph S. Murphy Institute. This panel includes breakout sessions with panelist so your participation is integral to the success. Please see more details and an opportunity to register below.

Do you have an exciting idea for an event or want to be more involved with Career Services programming? Let's chat!

Have a great week ahead.

Warmly,

Michelle Gabriel

RESEARCH PARTICIPATION

Frontline of Fashion Survey
Help alumna Mia Lupo and myself in our research supporting the upcoming Frontline of Fashion panel event. We are collecting via survey the experiences of American frontline fashion retail workers in order to bring their experiences to the event conversation.
The full survey results and analysis will be published as a follow-up after the panel discussion.
Please help to take the survey if you work in in-store fashion retail or help to distribute if your network works in this area.
Thank you!

Panelists to be Announced
‘The Frontline of Fashion: Imagining an Equitable Future for Retail Workers’ panel brings together brand leadership, labor advocacy, journalists, and academics for a dynamic and engaging conversation about creating a more equitable future for retail workers while envisioning the next stage of fashion retail.

This panel discussion will explore the current social, economic and organizational challenges facing fashion’s brick-and-mortar retail and the impact those challenges have on the value of frontline employees and individuals in the retail value chain. This panel will also discuss how in understanding these challenges, we might build new dynamics for fashion retail that support retail workers and fashion brands.

Social Impact Summit 2021

Social Innovation Summit 2021 will be held virtually on June 8-10, bringing together the top leaders from around the world for a unique series of discussions, debates and networking opportunities. Each session included a different combination of speakers, formats, workshops, breakouts, networking opportunities, and VIP Sessions focused on a specific social impact theme: Responsible Leadership in Times of Crisis; COVID Relief; Economic Empowerment & The Future of Work; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging; Impact Investing, SDGs, & Philanthropy; Mental Health and Wellness; and Education, Youth & Next Gen Learning.
The Social Innovation Summit is an annual event that represents a global convening of black swans and wayward thinkers. Where most bring together luminaries to explore the next big idea, we bring together those hungry not just to talk about the next big thing, but to build it.
Social Innovation Summit has always prided ourselves on being a community of people who are motivated to take action. In this time of crisis, our network can rise to the occasion and we can serve as the virtual convening place where the most important conversations take place for vital partnerships to be quickly developed and quickly engaged.
