2022 Sporting Clay Tournament

Congratulations to our winners and losers of yesterday's tournament at Shenecoy Sportsman. This is the first time we've had a business have both the winning and last place team. Congratulations to Cisney and O'Donnell Builders & Remodelers for being our Top Gun Team and our booby prize winner. In all fairness to the last place team, they were down one man, so were our only team of four. Tony Payne is once again the Top Gun Male. Our Top Gun Female is Kim Carbaugh. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day!
Managing Socio-economic Forces Impacting Employee Benefits

After years spent trying to maneuver the impacts of the Affordable Care Act, small business owners have found themselves further burdened over the past couple years from various pandemic, social and economic forces. With many decision makers facing urgent needs to trim costs, a reduction or even elimination of employee benefits has undoubtedly been discussed by many of these same business owners at one time or another.

Most people already know that health insurance premiums represent a major portion of a company’s operating budget, but the combination of reduced overall revenue and increased insurance costs has created a financial burden most companies have not previously experienced. At the same time, employers know how much their staff values employee benefits and that eliminating them could risk losing key employees.

Fortunately, there are options available to employers who are facing this difficult decision, and the staff at My Benefit Advisor can help. By understanding your business circumstances and employee demographics, we can tailor solutions involving creative strategies and the latest industry tools. Professional Employee Organizations, Discount Programs, and Individual Coverage HSAs have all enabled employers to achieve their employee benefit objectives during these challenging times.

The Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce offers its members access to My Benefit Advisor as a solution for employee benefits, including voluntary offerings. For more information about My Benefit Advisor, visit our website at hccc.mybenefitadvisor.com or contact Craig Pritts at (800) 377-3539.

Please join us at our Annual Awards Gala on Thursday, October 6 at Trophy Mountain Lodge, Weddings & Events located at 5262 Williamsburg Mountain Road, Huntingdon as we celebrate outstanding businesses and individuals in our community.

Pa. law protects workers who are approved for medical marijuana — but once they use it, it’s a different story

By Ed Mahon, Spotlight PA
Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Vague legal safeguards for medical marijuana users in Pennsylvania are forcing patients to choose between their job and a drug they say has changed their life, and leaving skittish employers vulnerable to lawsuits, according to a three-month Spotlight PA investigation. While state law protects workers from being fired or denied a job just for having a doctor’s permission to use marijuana, those protections become opaque when people actually take the drug — regardless of whether they do it in their personal time.

“Employers in general are not opposed to medical marijuana,” Alex Halper, director of government affairs for the chamber, told Spotlight PA. “They just want to know what the rules are when they’re hiring for safety-sensitive positions.”

UC Fraud and UC-1099G Tax Forms

Victim of unemployment fraud?
Criminals using stolen identities filed claims for unemployment compensation in other people's names. Because unemployment compensation is taxable, state unemployment agencies submit Forms 1099-G to individuals in whose names and Social Security numbers the unemployment compensation was paid and to the IRS. Victims of fraud who receive Forms 1099-G with inaccurate amounts of unemployment compensation in Box 1 should notify the state agencies of the inaccuracies and request corrected Forms 1099-G. The Department of Labor details www.dol.gov/agencies/eta/UIIDtheft.

Taxpayers should only report income they actually received on their tax returns. Do not report income you did not receive. The IRS offers tax guidance to victims at https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-theft-and-unemployment-benefits.

Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
