Navigating the Challenges of the School Day!

As the first round of progress reports are released to families, it is not uncommon for students and parents to begin to experience various waves of challenges both academically and socially while back in school.  Essentially, with six weeks of school under our belt, it might be safe to say that the honeymoon phase of school is now over.  Everyone experiences it on different levels, but oftentimes families are left trying to navigate scheduling conflicts, homework assignments, sibling interactions, work obligations, and the simple fact that Daylight Saving Time is rapidly coming to an end.  Needless to say, it is during this time that tempers can sometimes easily flare up and social cues and expectations can be challenging both at home and school.  Productively working through these moments takes a full scale team effort involving teachers, counselors, students, and family members alike. Yet, the truth is that in the long run we need to help children work through those as individuals so that they can grow and become confident, productive citizens as they mature. If you would like to read about more tips and suggestions on this topic, please check out this article I recently read on the subject of helping children overcome challenges at school!  Every little bit helps!  Have a great weekend! ~Mike

Kindergarten News

This week was Fire Safety week. The kindergarteners have been working hard to learn their address and phone number. They have been learning all about “people emergencies” and how to call 911.  We want to say thank you to Northwood Fire Department for coming to visit us and talking to the kids about what to do if there is an emergency.
