Navigating the Challenges of the School Day!
As the first round of progress reports are released to families, it is not uncommon for students and parents to begin to experience various waves of challenges both academically and socially while back in school. Essentially, with six weeks of school under our belt, it might be safe to say that the honeymoon phase of school is now over. Everyone experiences it on different levels, but oftentimes families are left trying to navigate scheduling conflicts, homework assignments, sibling interactions, work obligations, and the simple fact that Daylight Saving Time is rapidly coming to an end. Needless to say, it is during this time that tempers can sometimes easily flare up and social cues and expectations can be challenging both at home and school. Productively working through these moments takes a full scale team effort involving teachers, counselors, students, and family members alike. Yet, the truth is that in the long run we need to help children work through those as individuals so that they can grow and become confident, productive citizens as they mature.
