Message from the Principal
Dear DHS Staff, Students, and Families,

Next week marks the beginning of the final month of high school for our seniors! Please join me in recognizing and celebrating the Class 2021 over the next four weeks. Seniors, we cannot wait to see you at the Senior Sunset event on Wednesday, April 21st where you'll get your senior yard signs and other goodies.

Also for next week, recall that on Monday, students will have the opportunity to engage in sessions for Genocide Commemoration Day. Each year, DHS hosts a Genocide Commemortation Day dedicated to honoring victims and survivors with a variety of experiences that we hope will provide meaningful remembrances, inspiring stories and awareness of current issues that may move many to action. This year, we are very proud to work with Highland Park High School for a district wide event. Since Monday is an asychronous, remote day, teachers will enable students to use this day to virtually engage with speakers, faculty led discussions, and much more. Please click here for more information about the speakers and ways to participate. We are very grateful for our staff and student committee that have worked tirelessly to create such a necessary and meaningful event.

Sincerely,
Principal Kathryn Anderson

DHS actors to perform in New York-based political performance project
A new Verbatim Performance Lab (VPL) project, If You Wanna Switch Seats, We Could, features 60+ teenagers from schools around the U. S. taking on a verbatim performance of a section of the first 2020 Biden/Trump debate moderated by Chris Wallace. If You Wanna Switch Seats, We Could puts the words and gestures of Biden, Trump, and Wallace in the bodies and voices of teenagers to explore what happens to an audience’s perception of the interactions during this debate when younger and different bodied actors take on these roles?

The result is a culminating virtual event to be shared publicly on Saturday, April 17th, just ahead of Biden’s first 100 days in office, and featuring each school’s investigation, moderated discussion with special guests and student actors, and facilitated audience discussion. The DHS showing is at 3:30pm (CDT) along with two schools from Delaware and one school from North Carolina. Registration is FREE and information can be found on the official If You Wanna Switch Seats, We Could Website.
