When She Makes Face Masks, She Makes 600
Friends of the Library Board Member, Sallie Rinderknecht, has been making face masks for the community. She has made more than 600 masks!

Her masks have been sold to businesses, non-profits, and individuals. She sells her masks for $10 and proceeds go to the Christian Center of Park City. You can order yours by contacting Sallie at kindercapes@gmail.com.

Thank you, Sallie, for helping to keep our community safe!
Membership Reminder
It’s springtime, when we usually send emails to remind you about your Friends of the Library Membership. During this unusual time we’ve all had unwelcome and confusing issues that have needed our attention instead, so we’ll use this newsletter as our special reminder. Thank you for your Membership – we continue to value the importance of your past support.

  • Especially now that we can’t actually be there, your past donations have given all Library patrons more eBooks as well as new online learning sites. Thanks to you, these resources are up and running, available even though the Library is closed.
  • Especially now when our other Library fundraisers are in jeopardy. You’re not able to browse in the FOL Book Store to purchase steals and deals. Even more worrisome, our FOL Labor Day Book Sale – the meat and potatoes of your FOL support – might not be do-able in 2020.
  • With these big unknowns, especially now, the Friends of the Library needs your support, to fulfill our financial promises and to keep these resources available to you.

If you are able to help the Library now with your Membership support, even in this time of uncertainty, your FOL donation site is up and easy to access online at: https://parkcitylibrary.org/about/friends-of-the-library/.
Board Member Highlight:
Get to Know Gerd
Gerd’s diminutive frame can be spotted around the Library because she is almost always wearing a Norwegian sweater. She was born in a small town in the Lofoten, an archipelago off the western coast of Norway. Gerd’s father was a physician who traveled from island to island and was active in the underground during WWII. After her father’s death from a stroke, they moved to Oslo.

Gerd’s mother moved to America with her new husband and Gerd joined them two years later after she secured her visa. At sixteen she started school in California not knowing a word of English, but she learned quickly. Her stepdad taught her one hundred words per night.

Gerd married in California and then, after a divorce, married her current husband, Tony, a retired neurosurgeon. Gerd’s career included teaching, being a principal and teaching English as a Second Language. At one point in her ESL newcomer class she had thirty students speaking fourteen languages. Gerd moved to Park City to be with her daughter and grandchildren when she was sixty-one and after both she and Tony had retired.

Gerd has been on the FOL board for seven years. She found out about the board through her friend and fellow board member, Patti Sanborn. Gerd’s service includes facilitating the Next Chapter Book Club with Kate Mapp. The club is for adults with varying Developmental Abilities. She also sorts books and helps with various FOL fundraising events, like the book sales.

Find Gerd in the photo above! Gerd is the one in the purple top at the end on the right. She didn’t wear her Norwegian sweater that day!
