Message from:
President Davison, Kensington and Area Chamber of Commerce
These are difficult times and we want to take a minute to thank all those that are working so hard to help us all become educated about dealing with COVID-19, creating ways to help support businesses and their employees and who are helping to lead us in ways to restart the economy.

We also want to extend a large thank you to all of the 6 PEI Chambers staff, the Atlantic Chamber and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce for all the teamwork, collaboration, information sharing and for the strong, unified partnership in advocating for all of our businesses and communities.

This is another example that shows how strong and resilient the Atlantic Provinces are and Canada as a whole.

Thank you!
John Davison - President
COMMUNITY GOOD NEWS - Members Helping Members
As the impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) is felt by more businesses around the world, restaurants and other local businesses are particularly affected by the crisis. The need for social distancing has meant that many have already had to close their dining rooms and limit access to their businesses. However, local governments are still allowing restaurants and businesses to continue operating in a take-away or delivery capacity.

We have developed many online ordering systems for restaurants and other businesses locally and in the region for contactless ordering.

We can provide local restaurants or food preparation services a basic online ordering system that their customers could order online for pick up or delivery. Also basic e-commerce ordering for other types of business. They can add this system to their existing website or on their Facebook page. We can provide a micro website if they don't have a website.

We will offer this basic service free with no set up fee for the next 2 months, which hopefully will be closer to the end of this situation. This is for a basic menu of perhaps most popular items to make it easy for customers to select items. (Online payment is available as an option)

Add this service to your business to help people to stay safe, order online and keep physical distance while having access to the essential items needed.

Canadian Business Resilience Network - Launched
We are in this together. Welcome to the Canadian Business Resilience Network where you’ll find the latest information, tools and resources businesses need to make it through the COVID-19 pandemic. For More information:
The purpose of the CSBC is to measure the impacts of Covid-19 on businesses in Canada. It will provide important data to businesses, governments, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and thousands of business-related entities. This will help inform decision-making as they collectively navigate the way forward.

Data tables with the survey results will be published on the Statistics Canada website starting the week of April 20, 2020 (or sooner if possible). There may also be visualization products, such as infographics, beginning the week of April 27, 2020. You can also consult the  Canadian Economic Dashboard and COVID-19  on the Government of PEI website to track the economic impact of COVID-19 over time. It will be regularly updated with data on various aspects of the economy.

This survey is one of the largest crowdsourcing surveys conducted in such a short time period in Statistics Canada’s 100-year history. It is an example of what can be achieved when like-minded organizations work together to serve Canadians.
CFIB Releases Updated Survey of Business Outlook

The stark data collected from CFIB members indicate that only 20% are fully open, 30% do not have cash flow to pay April bills and 39% are worried about permanent closure. The pressing concerns are that relief for current bills is not arriving fast enough, some do not qualify for support and many are concerned about the debt crisis they may face by only deferring payments.

Payment of rent is emerging as a significant problem. As only a small percentage of tenants have deferral agreements in place, businesses will need access to new cash in order to meet next month’s lease payments.

As your Chamber, we are here for you and will continue to share relevant information as it becomes available. Please continue to reach out with your questions, comments and concerns.
