Masks Mandated in City of Los Angeles,
San Bernardino County
Local orders issued today requiring all essential workers wear face coverings
City of Los Angeles
Mayor Eric Garcetti today issued
an emergency order
effective April 10, instituting a citywide mask or face-covering requirement. Specifically, the order:
- requires all persons wear face coverings over their noses and mouths when leaving their homes.
- requires all essential workers wear face coverings over their noses and mouths while performing their work.
- states that, for non-medical workers, the masks are to be fabric face-coverings (such as a scarf or bandanna).
- requires employers of essential workers to permit workers to wash their hands at least every 30 minutes.
- requires employers to ensure that their employees have access to clean, sanitary restrooms, stocked with all necessary cleansing products; or sanitizing agents required to observe hand sanitation protocols.
- requires employers of essential workers provide employees with non-medical grade face coverings or reimburse employees who purchase their own.
Failure to comply with this order shall constitute a misdemeanor subject to fines and imprisonment.
San Bernardino County
Public Health Officials of San Bernardino County today issued
an order
mandating face coverings, effective April 8. Specifically, the order:
- requires all persons wear face coverings over their noses and mouths when leaving their homes.
- requires all essential workers wear face coverings over their noses and mouths while performing their work.
- states that, for non-medical workers, the masks are to be fabric face-coverings (such as a scarf or bandanna).
Note, the San Bernardino County order does not specify that employers must provide employees with face coverings.
Violation or failure to comply with this order is a crime punishable by fines, imprisonment or both.
The City of Carson
has reportedly adopted a similar ordinance and employers should begin preparing for other municipalities to do same.
