Welcome to IAG
Artist Statement:
My entire working life was in the medical & scientific field, so, when I retired I wanted to try something creative. After exploring & learning many different jewelry making skills, I found my passion in metalsmithing. I have been fortunate to have found a mentor, and to learn from him and other renowned jewelry artists around the country. I continue to take classes when I can, since there is always more to learn and techniques to try. Presently I display and sell my work at Artisan Gallery 218 in historic Valley Junction in West Des Moines, and now have the opportunity to have my work at Iowa Artisan Gallery in Iowa City.

Show Dates:

Greta is an artist from Coralville, Iowa. She lives there with partner, John Martinek, who is also an artist, and their son, Emmett.
Greta’s artwork is in the Field of surface design and illustration. Most of her designs begin in the realm of drawing, painting, paper-cutting, or printmaking. The designs are typically finalized digitally, using it as an opportunity to fine tune compositions and color.
Outside of the studio, Greta loves to garden, ride her bike, run, and do anything outdoors with her family and friends. If you were to drop in on her in the studio, you would likely find her sipping a strong iced coffee and listening to the latest episode of one of her favorite podcasts.
For her pop-in shop at the Iowa Artisan’s Gallery, Greta will have on hand a variety of prints, as well as tea towel calendars, and items for purchase featuring her fabric designs.

Show Dates: Nov 25 - Dec 5
Miranda Meyer was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa. She began her photography career as a girl, taking pictures of the family cats with a 110 Instamatic. She bought her first real 35mm camera when she was 15, with money she had earned detasseling corn. She majored in art and photography at the University of Iowa. Her favorite course was one in which she and her classmates walked around studying trees.
After graduating she worked as a photographer for the Michigan City News-Dispatch and the Cedar Rapids Gazette, but grew tired of being assigned to chase tornadoes, of which she is deathly afraid. From there she went on to work as a staff photographer for the University of Iowa. After her department closed she began her own freelance work.
Though Miranda enjoys photographing many different subjects, her principal interest is flowers. She strives to capture and elucidate intricate structures and surface textures, and, in her best work, subverts expectations to discover characteristics—elegance, dignity, pathos, shyness—that elude even a close observer. She is careful to avoid sentimentality and sensationalism. She passes on riots of bloom and frames her subjects alone, isolated and vulnerable. Tulips and lilies and irises distill to themselves, revealing an otherworldly beauty, a startling unfamiliarity, as though we are not seeing flowers we have lived with for centuries but strange, luminescent organisms newly-discovered on the ocean floor.

Jo Myers-Walker:
Watercolor Landscapes
|
|
During this 4 hour workshop artists will explore all of the elements needed to create a successful, and captivating watercolor landscape painting.
You'll start out by doing some warm-up paintings focusing on mixing colors and practicing wet in wet, salt resist, and brushwork techniques. After the warm-up you'll work on building a composition by starting small with a 4" x 7" pencil sketch. Once satisfied with your sketch you'll move on to mapping out color choices and finally painting your tiny prototype. Finally, you'll repeat the process on a larger sheet of high quality Arches watercolor paper.
*All levels of experience are welcome in this class.
Date: Saturday, November 9th
Time: 10a - 2p

Free The Girls Bra Drive
The main purpose of hosting a bra drive is to collect Bras! Your bras become the inventory for survivors of human trafficking to launch their own bra-selling business in the local markets of Mozambique, El Salvador and Costa Rica. This provides them with a safe and sustainable income – a livable wage - while they are attending to the other areas of their healing process.
Free The Girls is firmly focused on providing a sustainable pathway out of poverty - through entrepreneurship - for women who have been exploited in sex trafficking. Our unique model provides opportunities for survivors to move toward economic empowerment. Your donated bras become the inventory and currency for True Freedom.
