D65 Librarians Celebrate National Native American Heritage Month!
November is right around the corner which means that it’s time to celebrate National Native American Heritage Month! To kick-off and uplift the month, our D65 librarians have created curated lists of ebooks centered around indigenous voices, authors, and stories. Ebooks are available for elementary and middle school students to learn more about, and become further inspired by, the traditions and rich detailed histories of the indigenous community. How many books do you think you can read on the list?! Get your favorite cup of cocoa and start reading!

BPAC Meeting - November 4
A message from District 65’s BPAC: D65's BPAC (Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee) would like to invite our multilingual families to attend our upcoming meeting on November 4th, 2020 from 6-7 pm. We will be hearing about COVID-19 safety tips for kids from a pediatrician and learning more about how to cope and manage your mental well-being in different ways from a social worker. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, November 4th at 6 pm! View the flyer below for more information.

Learning Pathway Change Request Form
While we know that in-person learning has yet to resume, we wanted to remind families of the option to reflect and review the learning pathway that best serves the needs of their children. To streamline these requests, the district created a Learning Pathway Change Request Form for families.

Should you wish to change your child's selected learning pathway, please complete this form by October 30 to have the request considered for any return to onsite learning in trimester 2.

All parent/caregiver selections for learning pathway changes will be reviewed, and will be subject to staffing limitations, class size guidelines, and other factors such as student programs and needs.

Nichols Middle School Students Want You to Vote!
Eighth graders at Nichols Middle School have been hard at work not only flexing their artistic skills, but also expressing their passion for their civic duties! Contributing to an art project entitled “Art of Voting,” students worked on creating posters to help raise awareness on the importance of voting and encouraging adults to cast their ballots. One of the pieces of artwork can be found below and more will be shared via D65’s social media platforms, so be on the lookout for those on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. As a reminder, Election Day is Tuesday, November 3 and is a day of non-attendance for D65 students and staff. We don’t need to tell you to get out there and make your voice count - our students have already got that covered! Go ahead, vote!

High Five! October Recipient: Ms. Pat Gregory-Phillips!
Recipients for the High Five! Celebrating Excellence in District 65 staff recognition program have been announced for the month of October! Congratulations are in order to Lincoln Elementary PE educator, Ms. Pat Gregory-Phillips, who was selected and has served the district for 20 years! Ms. Gregory-Phillips was nominated by a D65 family member who shared, “Ms. Gregory is so creative about finding ways to reach students and keeping them engaged. She knows the limitations of doing PE from home, and does not let that stop her from reaching her students. She throws dance parties and gets even the shyest kids to groove. Ms. Gregory inspires her students to be strong and healthy, and to have confidence in their bodies and abilities. She is extraordinarily generous with her time and attention. A kid in her class has found the luckiest home for their physical education, and we are so grateful that she is part of the Lincoln family." Thank you, Ms. Gregory-Phillips for your dedication to your students! As a reminder, the D65 recipients who were selected will receive a $100 gift card from sponsorship provided by Byline Bank, a framed recognition certificate, and were recognized at the monthly school board meeting on Monday.
