Dear friend in Christ,
"He is not here; he has risen!" Luke 24:6–7
It's the Eastertide season, which should be a time of joy but, if you're anything like me, the first part of the quote from Luke ("He is is not here") seems to resonate with how I feel much more convincingly than the triumphant message "He has risen!"
As I reflect on why I feel like this, I realize that my current circumstances, which are certainly not the horrors many people experience, are leading me into that rather dull, dissatisfied view of life. Our sisters have all been vaccinated, yet life isn't swiftly returning to normal and, across the world, in countries from India to Brazil, things are getting worse for many people. We are daily confronted by injustice, evidence of racism, and social injustice and, at times, it can all seem too much.
I'm struggling to convince myself that it's right now, in these circumstances, when it's especially important to hold fast to the hope that Christ's Resurrection brings. Jesus is alive! Allowing that mystery to seep deep into my soul is what I need to turn my perspective around. If Jesus has suffered and literally risen from the dead, this is the promise that we, too, can come through this time of testing and together build a better world.
In faith and hope,

On Saturday, April 17, our 25th, 60th and 75th jubilarians celebrated jubilees, an anniversary milestone in the monastic tradition. Sisters who were 60th and 75th jubilarians last year celebrated with this year’s jubilee class because they were unable to celebrate last year due to COVID-19. The service was recorded and is available for viewing on our liturgy page. Once on the page, scroll down to the Community Celebrations section. Help us celebrate and congratulate our sisters for 25, 60, 61, 75 and 76 years of faithfully living the Benedictine monastic way of life!

World Day of Prayer for Vocations
|
Sunday, April 25, marked the 58th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website, the purpose of this day is "to publicly fulfill the Lord's instruction to, 'Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest' (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2)...While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), consecrated life in all its forms (male and female religious life, societies of apostolic life, consecrated virginity), secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life."

Now that we are vaccinated, we feel comfortable and blessed to be able to safely resume some of our previous "normal" activities, including partnering with other organizations to make a difference in the lives of others. This month, a group of sisters had a blast volunteering with Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity to help clean a house in Sauk Rapids, Minn., that will soon welcome a new Habitat family!

Earth Day Tree Planting at SSC
|
This Earth Day, sisters and staff at Saint Scholastica Convent practiced good stewardship of the earth through the planting of two new apple trees to honor the lives of Sisters Carolisa and Philomene Lutgen. The trees were donated by their niece, Teresa (Lutgen) Klinkner. Teresa has many fond memories of visiting her aunts, and she shared that her family of 14 children picked apples at SSC every year. Whenever there were enough apples, they were always called in to take the leftovers!
Thank you, Teresa, for gifting us with these beautiful trees to brighten our campus and enjoy a fun, fruitful Earth Day activity!

We are offering spiritual direction through Zoom, Skype or phone calls. Spiritual direction is for persons seeking a deeper inner life, struggling with transitions or desiring a deeper relationship with God, and a spiritual director is a companion to another on his/her spiritual journey as the Spirit directs the person to the blessings that God intends for him/her. For more information, contact Sister Josue Behnen at (320) 363-7112 or

3G Camp Update
for Summer 2021
|
Due to the continued prevalence of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel both 2021 sessions for Girls, God and Good Times (3G) Camp. We know the disappointment this will cause, and you can be assured of our prayers. If you would like your daughter to stay connected, please email Sister Laura Suhr at [email protected] with your daughter’s name and grade, and S. Laura will provide more information. We sincerely hope that we can finally reunite in 2022!
