City Continues Reopening, Urges Wearing of Face Masks
|
The Midtown Economic Council (MEC) will hold a public meeting this week on Thursday, June 18th at 4 p.m. at The Hatch, 6161 Hillside Avenue to consider a proposed developer-backed bond, not to exceed $5M, supporting a development project approved for 6201 N College Ave. Bond proceeds would support qualified development costs and eligible on-site public improvement. Business Resources Update
Congratulations to the
25 Indianapolis Minority Businesses who received a $5,000 grant through LISC Indianapolis for business recovery.
We see some familiar faces and are proud to see a few Midtown business owners on that list: Cheatham and Moore Barber Shop, Kurly Koils, and our neighbors at Chef Oya's The Trap!
Applications for the Ready to Restart Grants through the Indy Chamber opened on June 10. These grants will award up to $5,000 to Marion County businesses of 150 employees or less based on reimbursements for purchases of PPE, dividers, hand sanitizer stations, washable restaurant menus, and more.

Longtime Midtown Barber Bill Barnett Retires
After 54 years as a barber, Bill Barnett packed up his clippers on Friday, June 12, and walked out the door of Cheatham & Moore Barber Shop and into retirement.
"I've been here 41 years at 3828 N. Illinois," Barnett recalled one morning during his final week at the shop. "Oh, yeah, I've seen a lot of changes." The Standard Grocery that used to be across the street is now a parking lot, and the Double 8 down the block is slated for redevelopment. Oddly enough, one thing that hasn't changed much is hairstyles.

On June 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Cars and Gravy is back! This free community event takes place at National (215 E. 38th Street) and welcomes people to bring their cars, trucks, motorcycles, vintage, new, custom, all makes and years. There is no registration required and all are welcome!

Children's Museum of Indianapolis Plans to Reopen
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis announced their plans for reopening last week. They will begin a phased reopening, beginning with their members and donors:
June 24: Museum opens to donor families only
June 29: Museum opens to member and donor families only

Indy Public Library Reopening
The Indianapolis Public Library (IndyPL) has announced plans to open libraries in waves based on the ability to have adequate safety supplies and procedures in place. Midtown branches, Glendale and College Avenue, are slated to reopen on June 29. The InfoZone library branch inside The Children's Museum of Indianapolis will remain closed until further notice. Curbside pickup service will continue for the foreseeable future.
IndyPL asks patrons who feel unwell to note visit library branches. Patrons are asked to practice good hygiene such as hand-washing and avoiding touching their face. All patrons over 2 years of age will be required to wear a face mask. Library staff will monitors building capacity and if necessary, limit access in order to maintain physical distancing requirements. Library visits will be limited to less than one hour.

North United Method Church, located at the corner of Meridian and 38th Street, will reopen for in-person worship on a limited basis on Sunday, June 21. Attendance will be limited to approximately 50 people at the church's 8:30 a.m. service and reservations may be made by emailing [email protected] or by calling 317-536-0789. The deadline to register for service is by noon each preceding Friday.
North UMC will continue to live-stream its 11 a.m. worship service, which is still being held without attendees at this time, through their website.
