Greetings!

Finding resources that are actually useful for parenting children with Reactive Attachment Disorder can be hard, especially with so much information to sift through online.

I personally own and use all of the books and resources listed below and use them with and recommend them to the families I work with in coaching sessions and in respite care. They are all adaptable for a wide range of ages and severities, parenting styles, and family situations.

With summer just around the corner it's time to stock your bookshelves and print out the resources to put in a binder or on your fridge and get some fresh ideas and inspiration for your therapeutic parenting journey!

Stay safe and enjoy!

Books
A Glimpse at Understanding RAD provides an insight into the lives of children with Reactive Attachment Disorder. In this book you will learn about the symptoms and behaviours of these children, how their past affects their present and their future, as well as the effects it has on their families and society today.

Whether you are a parent, professional, or simply a curious reader, this book will show you in easy to understand terms what RAD is all about, and what you can do to make a difference.

Have you ever seen parents using therapeutic parenting techniques and thought, “What are they doing?”

This book dives into the what, why, and how of therapeutic parenting. Learn about the reasons behind the interventions that are used and catch a glimpse into the nurturing and playfulness that therapeutic parents add to their lives.
A workbook for children working on a strong, healthy brain

We want to give every child the tools they need to live a happy, healthy life. We believe it begins with brain health.

This workbook is designed for a parent (or therapist) to do with their child – it is not a book for a child to work through on their own. Use this workbook as a time of bonding between parent & child: sit side-by-side, get comfy, and go through the pages together.

“Parenting is hard. So what do you do when you’re parenting a child who has experienced trauma or has extra challenges?

You often feel alone and inadequate. You want so much to help your child, but you are at the end of your own rope. You feel guilty that sometimes you just want to quit.

What can you do – how can you make it through the day – how can you help your child while also taking care of yourself?”

In Dancing with a Porcupine, Jennie Owens shares with humor and raw honesty the compelling story of her struggle to save her own life while caring for three children she and her husband adopted from foster care.
Parenting with Love and Logic

According to Dr. Foster Cline and Jim Fay, responsibility―like anything else―has to be learned through practice. If you want to raise kids who are self-confident, motivated, and ready for the real world, learn to parent with Love and Logic. Put the fun back into parenting as you establish healthy boundaries without resorting to anger, threats, nagging, or exhausting power struggles!
