SAR Celebrates Re-opening

SAR photo

NEW!

The SAR celebrated its post-pandemic re-opening to in-person service, this week, with complimentary drive-through water and ice cream for members in the SAR parking lot (pictured above) - newly expanded and paved during the year-and-a-half closure.

About two dozen members drove through our parking lot to take part in the event - including new members and affiliate members.

Any new members who joined after March 2020 have only known a closed SAR.

The drive-through event was the idea of, and organized by, the SAR Communications Committee, including members (pictured left to right above) Marilyn Amato, Laura Branning and 2021 Communications Committee chair Katie McDaris Marks, here delivering an ice cream bar to member Mike Crowley who stopped by to chat a while about how business is going and the heat.

Below, Committee/event chair Katie McDaris Marks (photo below, left) visits with member Pamala Whalen (independent appraiser; photo below, right). In-person visits are much more personal and often end with a better appreciation for the talents and skills of the people you meet.

Drive-through visitors included member Abbey Parsons and her son (pictured below) who chose an orange popsicle from the refreshing treats on offer, expertly served by SAR past-president and member Marilyn Amato

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during the time of COVID-19 as we invented new processes and systems by which to deliver virtual services to members and the public during the shut-down.

A hybrid of in-person and virtual services will be offered together for a while - please engage with your programs  and services as you are most comfortable.

It's good to see you again.

SAR Board Resumes In-person Meetings
SAR photo

NEW!

The SAR Board of Directors convened in-person for the first time since March 2020, this week - the first meeting of the body in a year-and-a-half and the first-ever in-person meeting of this year's board - due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

The meeting was convened at noon Thursday by Chair Pro-tem Eric Etzel, 2021 SAR President-elect (photo above, in blue shirt).

Some members still joined remotely.

Association members are always welcome to come and watch board meetings, typically the first Tuesday of every month.

Washington Ready

REALTORS® Endorse Housing Advocates
SAR photo

The Spokane Association of REALTORS® (SAR) and the Washington REALTORS® Political Action Committee proudly endorse three Spokane City Council candidates, all of whom will advocate for housing and home ownership in the 2021 Elections:

Spokane City Council
Dist. 1 Jonathan Bingle
Dist. 2 Betsy Wilkerson (incumbent)
Dist. 3 Michael Lish

Each of the candidates met with a team of REALTOR® member volunteers, who made a unanimous choice of those selected. "There has never been a more critical time in our city's history for issues surrounding housing," said SAR President Eric Johnson. "We believe these candidates represent Spokane's best chance at repairing 10 years of under-building in our region."

How is it that a buyer broker can represent a buyer who writes more than one offer at a time when the buyer can only buy one property?

Washington REALTORS® Legal Hotline lawyer Annie Fitzsimmons discusses this question from the buyer and listing broker's perspective.

SIGN THE LETTER
by July 26th!

Tell the City of Spokane to allow more homes...now!

For more than a decade, Spokane has failed to build enough homes to meet the demands of our growing community.

As a result, housing prices are increasing at a never-before-seen pace.

On July 26th, the Spokane City Council will vote on its Housing Action Plan - one we believe is based on out-of-date housing information and will NOT adequately address the severe housing shortage we now face.

Sign the letter. Tell our city leaders their Spokane Housing Action Plan fails to address our immediate housing crisis.

Ask your clients and business associates to sign the letter, too!
