Bennett Days 2022 - Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who attended Bennett Days this year! Even with the rain, we hope our residents and neighbors had a great time at the event. This could have never happened without our generous sponsors.

We are already looking forward to Bennett Days 2023!

Marketplace Signalization and Intersection Improvements

Construction has begun for the State-Highway 79 and Marketplace Intersection improvements and signalization.

Work will continue on October 3, 2022 and crews will be in the area to start lane widening and right of way modifications. Signals will not be installed until the Town receives further approvals from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Some of the improvements include creating a dedicated right-hand turn lane that will allow trucks and other vehicles to turn towards I-70.

During this time there will be some impacts to traffic, please use extra caution when traveling through the area.

If you have additional questions regarding the work in the area, please contact the Town of Bennett at 303-644-3249.

Love's Travel Stops Parking Lot Expansion Groundbreaking

The Town of Bennett along with Love’s Travel Stops (Love’s) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) celebrated an innovative new partnership, that will add 114 new full use truck parking spots along the Colorado Front Range, at a groundbreaking ceremony on September 28, 2022.

The Town of Bennett is excited to be a part of this innovative partnership to address the need for safe and secure truck parking along the Colorado Front Range. The Town is supporting Love’s addition of approximately 114 new full use truck parking spots to the current facility and simultaneously working with CDOT on the design of an expanded and improved State Highway 79 bridge that connects I-70 to the Town. By helping facilitate this partnership, the design of the new bridge is years ahead of schedule and both CDOT and the Town will have a ”shovel ready” project they can seek funding for. Construction on the new bridge will begin once sufficient funding is identified and secured.

“The Town of Bennett is growing very rapidly,” said Town Administrator Trish Stiles, “having our primary access point with I-70 upgraded sooner than later will allow the Town to continue to thrive and provide safer access for everyone."

Truck and freight safety is of key importance to CDOT, and having the additional safe parking along one of the state’s key freight corridor was a main concern for all parties involved.

"The Love’s truck parking facility is an important component of our transportation system, providing a safe environment for truckers when the highway is closed due to adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “With commercial vehicles representing up to 35% of all the traffic on I-70 between Denver and the Kansas border, facilities such as this one can help solve some of our most immediate transportation challenges and serve as a model for future public/private partnerships.”

This partnership could not have been formed without the support of the other organizations.

Community Services Officer Helps Reunite Long Lost Pet

Earlier this month, our Community Services Officers found a stray cat. After scanning the microchip, they found the cat’s owner who is currently living in Castle Rock. Her cat Gracie had been missing for six years! They were thrilled to be reunited after all this time.

This is why it's so important to register your pets and make sure they are microchipped. If you ever lose your furry friend, it can make reuniting so much easier. It is required that all Bennett residents license their pets with the Town.

More information on registering and licensing your pet with the Town of Bennett can be found online here

Thank you to our Community Services team for helping reunite Gracie with her family!

Public Art in the Bennett Community

If you make your way out along Eastern I-70 you might be surprised to see a wide array of public art. With the generous support from the Adams County Arts and Culture, the Town of Bennett has added two trail murals through the "Love Your Trails" initiative that displays the innovative art of artist-healer Leah Nguyen and muralist Alex Eickhoff. This fall, the Town will also add a wall mural at Trupp Park painted by Colorado based, female artist collective Babe Walls.

Building upon the growing interest in public art, the Town, with the support of the Board of Trustees, has recently started working with renowned artist and sculptor James Peterson to commission a large and multidimensional kinetic wind sculpture to be added to the community's Civic Center Park. There are also plans to add additional murals highlighting the regional wildlife.

These are just a few examples that show that art on the eastern plains is alive and well. Make a trip to Bennett to see this incredible artwork for yourself.
