Dig Deeper: 2020 Summer Reading with Berkeley Public Library
School’s Out! What image does that conjure up for you? Swimming pools? Baseball games? Curling up with a good book and reading the morning away? At least ONE of those activities is still at hand, and just as easy to accomplish this year as last: reading! Escaping to another world of fantasy or adventure, or exploring the wonders and history of THIS world. And the Berkeley Public Library is ready to help with the Summer Reading Program, " Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover ."

To get started you’ll register online . Then a week later pick up a mystery packet at your branch library—a free book to start your summer discoveries. You’ll download the Beanstack tracking app onto a phone—or keep track on your computer—or print out a paper tracker on the library website . After they read for 10 hours, kids can enter a drawing for prizes like a bike, a gardening set, beginner science kit and more. For every 10 more hours of reading, kids can enter the drawing another time!

Teens and adults have their own Summer Reading Program. They get to choose from a list of 15 activities, from reading books to discovering websites, to exploring the Library’s online resources. Complete 10 activities and you’ll be entered into a raffle for a guitar or a ukulele or a Kindle.

A HUGE shout out to our community partner and the BPL Summer Reading event sponsor the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library for providing funding, books and many prizes. And thank you to Mike’s Bikes for the bike!
The Foundation is providing emergency funds to assist the library in the next phase of reopening. Please help by making a gift before June 30th!
