The 2021 BAU Fair Goes Virtual – January 13th -15th, 2021
Brian Hawrysh | [email protected]
The organizers of the BAU Fair just last week announced their decision to shift their tradeshow to a virtual platform. In keeping with these new realities, BC Wood is working to create an opportunity for its’ members to promote their products and services to European buyers at the new virtual BAU fair in a safe and secure manner.

The BAU fair, the largest and best-known building products show in Europe has long been an important market development event in BC Wood’s calendar. The high-end European markets for log and timber frame homes, as well as high-quality finished building materials such as decking, siding, roofing, flooring and millwork continue to be in strong demand. In addition, specialty Western Red Cedar, Douglas-Fir and Hemlock lumber are also highly sought after by manufacturers in Western European markets.
“Zoom-in On Japan”: Lead Generation Campaign 2020

One new initiative is a cost-effective, multi-pronged, promotional campaign that will market your products both directly to over 8000 of our industry contacts across the country as well as at the all-important Japan Home Show from November 11th-13th.

Leadership in the New Normal Series
– Leaders Must Learn to Develop New Leaders
Are the leaders in your company taking the time and effort to identify, mentor, and train the next generation of leaders?

Great leaders are groomed for success. Yes, there are innate qualities that make someone a great leader, but even those with natural ability need developing.

Great leaders inspire, coach, mentor, and give those around them the ability to test their boundaries and learn from mistakes without fear of retribution or embarrassment.

Someone much wiser than I once said that leaders must provide a safe space for people to learn and grow. I genuinely believe that to be the case.

The worst thing we can do is promote someone without providing them the skills they require to succeed. A tactician who excels at doing their specific task, but does not know how to train and inspire others to do that task better than they can is not a great potential leader. That is a recipe for failure.

A great leader brings people to the team that has skills that they do not. They are people who excel at certain things and are teachable, coachable, and want to be part of the team. From there, it is is about communicating with that person to find out what their aspirations are in the short, medium, and long-term.

Certain people are happy, just being task-oriented; they have no desire to lead a team. Other people want leadership roles assuming that leadership is the way to gain power, prestige, and money. While others want to advance their careers, learn new things, and raise the water to float all boats. Great leaders understand all this and work with people to help them succeed long-term, become more valuable assets for the company, and better versions of themselves.

What are your leaders doing right now to identify where people are in their careers? What are they doing to provide those people with the opportunities, training, and support that they need to go from good to great? What are you doing to support your leaders so they can support their teams effectively?

When you grow our people, your business flourishes because of it.

Invest in your people! They are the greatest asset you have.
