CHILDREN'S MUSEUM EXHIBIT BRINGS AWARENESS TO RACIAL VIOLENCE
The Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See exhibit is open at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Three years in the making, the exhibit is the fruit of a collaboration between The Children’s Museum, the Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley Institute, the Emmett Till Interpretive Center, and the Till family. It tells the story of Till, a Black 14-year-old from Chicago, who was brutally murdered while visiting his uncle’s home in Mississippi in 1955. Two white men accused of murdering Till were acquitted by an all-white jury in 67 minutes.
A key artifact included in the exhibit is a roadside plaque commemorating the site where Emmett’s body was recovered from the Tallahatchie River. Signs at this particular spot have been repeatedly vandalized and have been replaced three times. The fourth sign installed to honor Emmett’s life is bulletproof, and equipped with security cameras and alarms.
Because of the difficult subject matter, The Children's Museum has made efforts to help visitors process the information. Facilitators within the exhibit will share conversation starters to help families understand what happened during the Jim Crow era and to reflect on its effect on race relations. A Building Bridges workshop helps turn a fence into a bridge – a way to symbolize different approaches to breaking down racial barriers. An actor-led performance features a social justice educator and their reflection on the negative response they received after sharing Emmett Till’s story with students.
This exhibit is recommended for children 10 and older, and those between 10 and 18 years of age should be accompanied by an adult.
The Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See exhibitwill be at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis until October 30, after which it will travel to seven cities before being installed in its permanent home in Sumner, Miss.

INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS REBUILDING STRONGER MEETINGS
On September 13, 2022, Dr. Aleesia Johnson, Superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) held the annual State of the District address where she released the final draft of the “Rebuilding Stronger” plan. PARKSIDE AT TARKINGTON STILL LEASING
Appointments with applicants for the senior housing units will continue until all units are leased. Interest has been strong so if you're interested, don't delay.
Income range for a one-person household is $19,200 minimum - $38,400 maximum. Rental range for one bedrooms is $439 - $953 depending on income. Income range for a two person household is $21,930 minimum - $43,860 maximum. Rental range for two bedroom is $523-$1,140 depending on income.

INDYGO UPDATE
38TH ST.: COLLEGE AVE. TO FALL CREEK PARKWAY
Station construction continues at 38th Street and Coliseum Avenue. Work will be performed within the lanes that are currently surrounded by Jersey barriers and is not expected to impact traffic.
SHERMAN DRIVE CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION
Sherman Drive north and south of 38th Street is closed for Purple Line construction. Drivers are required to detour using 46th Street, Emerson Avenue, 34th Street, and Keystone Avenue. IndyGo Route 5 westbound detours along 37th, Denny, and 36th streets while Route 39 utilizes Emerson Avenue, 34th Street, and Keystone Avenue. Each route is implementing temporary stops wherever it is safe to do so.

MOBILITY ACCESS FUND ENABLES NONPROFITS TO ASSIST MARION COUNTY RESIDENTS
IndyGo is partnering with the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation to provide Marion County nonprofits two resources to decrease the financial barriers for clients using public transportation.
The Bus Pass Grants program provides nonprofits with free bus passes. The competitive grant application is open through October 31 with awards announced in January 2023.
The Nonprofit Discount Program provides a 50% discount (up to $1,000 per year) to purchase full-fare bus passes. Discount applications are open and accepted year-round, with applications reviewed and responded to within 10 business days.
In cooperation with IndyGo, The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) is employing a consultant to conduct passenger surveys on IndyGo bus routes. The survey results will be used to inform transit planning for Indianapolis.
Passengers will be selected at random to participate in a short five-minute interview during their ride. Surveyors will be carrying tablet computers and wearing an easily identifiable uniform with a badge. Responses will be fully anonymous and cannot be linked back to the rider. IMPO and IndyGo will use the information collected solely to analyze ridership patterns and to plan transit service improvements.
Participants will have the option to provide contact information that will enter them into a drawing for a free 31-day IndyGo bus pass.

ENROLL NOW FOR SECOND HELPINGS CULINARY JOB TRAINING PROGRAM
Second Helpings rescues food from a variety of sources and uses the ingredients to create up to 4,500 meals daily that are distributed through a network of more than 90 social service agencies.
A free Culinary Job Training program teaches aspiring food service workers how to use rescue food to prepare nutritious meals. The program has been updated and expanded based on the recommendations of a community task force led by Chef Jeff Bricker, Professor of Hospitality, Department Chair, School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Ivy Tech Community College.
The program now includes site visits and job shadowing as well as training in financial literacy, goal setting, and time management. The Culinary Job Training program is now much more flexible for students in today’s changing work environment,” said Second Helpings CEO Linda Broadfoot.
Enrollment is now open, and the next class will begin on Monday, October 3. Two information sessions are scheduled for people interested in learning more about the program:

Barber II, Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign and national leader in social justice and political organizing is the featured guest. Dr. Barber will present a keynote address followed by a moderated discussion about how we can overcome poverty by attacking the injustices that fuel it with Sojourner Magazine Fellowship Program Director Moya Harris. According to the Sept. 19 report by the Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD), the CDC’s COVID-19 Community Level report states that Marion County’s Community level is “Low.” Metrics used to determine the COVID-19 Community Level include case rate per 100,000 residents, new COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 population, and percent of staffed inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed COVID.
The Indiana Department of Health has launched a monkeypox virus dashboard. As of Sept. 16, the health district that includes Marion County has 127 reported cases. The Jynneos vaccine is currently being distributed and MCPHD will be conducting Monkeypox Vaccination Clinics at Eagledale Plaza, 2802 Lafayette Road, Suite 13, Indianapolis, 46226.
