Week of April 19, 2021

Good Afternoon CCGS Families,

We had another great week here at CCGS! I got to participate in a few of the music concert recordings and students did a fantastic job! The art projects are so colorful and creative that students are working on with Mrs. Becker too! I have seen so much writing in the hallways lately. I even saw pizza boxes and stories about pizza this week! We have so much research happening right now, but we also have students working on poetry for poetry month and narrative writing in other grades. Of course there has been lots of math work too!

Than you so much to our PTO and to our families for supporting fundraisers this year! Because of you, we raised enough money to purchase our Book Vending Machine for birthday books for students! Our school store funds will now go towards the purchase of birthday books. We are so thankful for all of your support!

Input needed to help set foundation's funding priorities

Yorkville Educational Foundation (YEF), the nonprofit partner of Yorkville CUSD 115, has raised more than $125,000 since its inception. YEF is seeking the community's input through a short 10-question survey regarding which programs to invest in district-wide. All participants will be entered into a drawing for a $250 grant to go towards the Y115 school of his/her choice. Even if you're not familiar with the foundation, your input is valuable for future planning.  Survey Link (http://yef115.org/assessment)

Parents asked to complete a food service survey by April 18th
As Yorkville CUSD 115 students attended school in various methods/times this school year, the district strived to bring a sense of normalcy to the food service program to ensure that nutritious meals were consistently available for all Y115 students. Especially after this challenging year, it is important for the district to learn from parents what worked well and what improvements may be needed to the district's food service program.

Parents are asked to complete a survey (link below) on behalf of each of their children in grades 1-6 regarding their food service experience in Y115. Survey answers are anonymous and results will be shared with the Y115 Food Service Committee in order to prepare for next school year.

Survey Deadline: Wednesday, April 18 at 5 p.m.

  • Congratulations to all! For the fourth consecutive year, Yorkville has been named as a Best Community for Music Education by NAMM. Yorkville is one of 14 school districts in Illinois to receive the designation this year. This year's application process focused on innovation and instruction during the pandemic. We are proud of our students, educators, administration, Board of Education, and community for this outstanding recognition!
  • Thank you to our families that completed the District 115 20-21 school planning survey. Here are the results of that survey.
  • Introducing District 115’s New Online Payment Portal. Yorkville CUSD 115 is now accepting online payments! Conveniently pay fees, purchase tickets, add money to lunch accounts, and much more from a computer or mobile device. The district’s new payment portal saves time and ensures users that their payments are securely sent to and received by the district. Debit, credit card and eChecks are accepted. Parents are encouraged to set up a payment portal account at https://y115.RevTrak.net (access is also available on the home pages of the district/schools websites). The system is currently accepting payments for current account balances, elementary intramurals, and Yorkville Education Foundation donations.
  • BACK FOR 2021! The Yorkville School District is hosting The Virtual Taste of Yorkville "Culture Matters" to feature the melting pot of cultures that make up the Yorkville School District community. This virtual event will feature several cultural highlights, recipes, and interviews. This year's event will be held virtually on YouTube due to the current pandemic. The event will kick-off this year on Saturday, April 24th.

Mrs. Becker's Classroom Highlight of the Week

Hello CCGS Families!

The excitement is brewing in art the last few weeks as we are getting ready for our upcoming art show (May 13th on Zoom)! Students are studying the rainforest as inspiration. We read a few books and have an author visit next week too. Each student 1st-3rd chose an animal to research. We used recycled materials to build a relief of that animal. This week we started painting the animals and learned about warm and cool colors and color mixing with tempera paint. Kindergarten created a toucan and tree frog with recycled materials. The students are working so hard to take care of the Earth and make beautiful art to share with you! Art in the classroom has had its challenges but all the students have learned so much about technology, taking care of materials, trying new things, and using their creativity. I am proud of their resiliency this year and willingness to think outside the box. We always say "we can do hard things!" More information will be sent out about our Art Show on May 13th. We can't wait to see everyone.

Love,
Mrs. Becker's Classroom
