RTMC Newsletter - December 2017
Why I Give
There are many reasons why the end of the calendar year becomes a season of giving. Often, it's related to our holiday traditions. Sometimes it's a tax consideration. But no matter when or how much we choose to give, the result is usually a feel-good response in ourselves - the joy of giving!

RTMC is so grateful for our many supporters and we want to show our appreciation by highlighting a donor story in our upcoming newsletters. This month, we feature a former RTMC staff member who has remained a loyal donor and advocate of our organization over the years.

"RTMC holds a special place in my heart, as I
worked for RTMC as the Corporate Relations and Volunteer Engagement Manager. The team fast became my new MD family, along with the many hardworking, loyal and supportive partners, volunteers, and clients. I have many favorite memories at RTMC, but my favorite was always project day. To see all the hard work come together over months of planning, it was always so wonderful to see the impact on what we had created. To see the finished project at a family's home, their bright smiles and how their lives will completely change for the better are all memories that I cherish. I continue to give to RTMC because I have seen up close the measurable progress and positive impact that RTMC has on the Montgomery County community. Although I wish otherwise, I believe that the need for RTMC's work will continue for generations to come, and with continued support through donors and volunteers, we together can help reach more deserving individuals and families in need."

#givingtoSTAY
We want to thank those who are helping kick off our
#givingtoSTAY campaign by making a recurring gift to RTMC! This campaign helps our elderly clients safely age in place; it helps families overcome the burden of choosing between putting food on the table or repairing a leak in the roof; it helps our veterans feel at home again; and most importantly, it helps all of our low-income homeowners stay in their homes and live in a safe and healthy space.

We hope you will consider becoming a recurring donor to RTMC this holiday season, by setting up a monthly, or quarterly, donation through our secure online giving platform. A monthly gift to RTMC has a smaller impact on your wallet each month, but a more substantial, sustaining, impact on our organization.

To set up your recurring gift and become a Foundation Builder, or to make a one-time donation, please visit our website or click the button below

Stay Safe and Healthy this Holiday Season
'Tis the season for accidents around  the  household!   The number of house fires and fire  relate d accidents increases dramatically over the holiday season. Make sure your home does not become a statistic by following these five simple principles. Follow our Facebook page for more holiday safety tips.
  1. Decorate Safely: Choose decorations that carry a UL or CSA label, indicating that they have been tested for fire safety.
  2. Cook Safely: Be careful in the kitchen by keeping oven mitts, towels, and wooden utensils away from stoves and ranges.
  3. Observe Safely: Never leave burning candles unattended and keep your Christmas tree hydrated.
  4. Play Safely: Make sure kids don't play with matches and lighters by keeping these materials out of reach.
  5. Entertain Safely: Let guests know about fire exits and ensure smoke detectors are spaced throughout your home and functioning properly.
Tax Credits for RTMC Donors!
If you are a Maryland resident or a business located in the state, then your gift to RTMC could qualify you for an additional 50% tax credit from the state - on top of your standard state and federal charitable tax deduction. The tax credits were made available to RTMC's donors through the Maryland Community Investment Tax Credit program. Because we have a limited amount of tax incentives available, we'd encourage you to make the most of your charitable donations today!

To qualify to be eligible for the tax credit, donors total giving to RTMC must be greater than $500.00 for this calendar year. If you have any questions, please contact Elisa Hermes at 301-947-9400 x101 or at  [email protected].

Cold Temperatures Don't Stop Our Volunteers!
Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo Volunteer Team

Last Thursday, December 14th, a group of volunteers from Wells Fargo came together to work on the Rebuilding Together Montgomery County warehouse in Rockville, MD. Despite the freezing temperatures and recent snowfall, volunteers worked throughout the day organizing materials and cleaning up the warehouse. We are thankful to have had such an eager, and fun, group that helped us prepare for our two major events in March and April.

USAA
With support from our National Office, RTMC was able to receive funding from USAA to work on the home of a low-income veteran homeowner in Montgomery County. Through this funding opportunity, our volunteer handymen were able to come together and work on a veteran's home in Silver Spring, MD. With repairs nearly complete, our client will be able to enjoy the holidays in a safer and healthier home.
