Good morning!
Welcome to our brave new world. While we are living in historic and uncharted territory, we have been given a gift…time. Time to listen and reflect. Time to revisit New Year’s Resolutions! Time to start a new hobby. Time to take care of yourself. Which brings me back to thinking,
Wedgewood First!
Your Wedgewood Board of Directors met “virtually” as scheduled last week. Following Governor DeWine’s “New Rules for Social Engagement,” we utilized the Zoom App and were able to have an insightful discussion and make some timely and fiscally sound decisions for our club.
Decisions
In response to our club’s current operating environment, we determined at this time it is prudent to retain all full-time employees, but lay off our part-time employees. The full-time employees will be cross-trained on multiple jobs so that they can effectively operate the club and provide the limited services the club is able to offer during this time. We have referred the part-time employees to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services for assistance with unemployment benefits. We believe we have a talented group of employees, and are working to retain as many of those individuals as we can so that when things return to normal the club will be able to quickly return to its high standard of service.
Our annual Capital Share was scheduled to be billed to all members on March 31. We have decided to (i) delay the Capital Share funding for Social Members at this time, and (ii) only bill 50% of the Capital Share to Active Golf Members until such time as the Board determines, which we anticipate to be when we feel the club and its amenities are back to being fully or substantially open and available to the members.
In addition, we have decided to delay moving forward on any of our previously considered capital improvement plans, including repaving the parking lot. While some of these improvements are considered high priorities, and we have set aside appropriate funds for their completion, we feel it prudent at this time to retain that cash as a buffer against the unknown duration of this unprecedented event.
On-going Communication
Earlier, we introduced our new ClubHouse Online App. If you have not downloaded it yet from your respective phone App Store, I highly encourage it! All areas of the club are utilizing its communication abilities. Download it and you can:
- Receive club announcements, including weekly dining specials
- Order carry out/food delivery from the Wedgewood restaurant
- Participate in an online workout led by your own Wedgwood personal fitness trainer, Michele
- Order Wedgewood gear and golf balls from the pro shop
- Schedule a round of golf using the Online Tee Sheet (if you haven’t heard yet, the golf course opens on Tuesday, March 24 at 11:00 am)
- Review club emails you may have missed via a brand new section called “Club Emails” which archives important past club emails
Eat!
We all need to eat to survive. But, give your kitchen (and yourself) a break and order a meal from Wedgewood this week. It’s a delicious, nutritious and convenient dinner carryout or delivery option. Our current menu includes a variety of our most popular items and will be updated every two weeks. Thank you for your robust support so far.
As always, if you have specific food allergies or requirements, please ask. And, remember to order a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beer to go with it!
Play!
Getting exercise is important to staying healthy and maintaining a good life balance, even now. We are creating ways to utilize our club for exercise outside of the gym. Check the Wedgewood App for online fitness classes. The golf course paths will be open to walkers prior to golf. Over the next few weeks, Michele will be introducing exercises you can do at several holes – watch for it on the App.
Did I mention, the golf course opens (with restrictions) on Tuesday, March 24 at 11:00 am. Social members will also have unlimited access to the golf course at a discounted rate during the closure of the club’s other amenities!
Appreciation!
Take this time to show your appreciation...write someone you care about a note. Post a kind message on a friend’s Facebook page. “Phone a friend.” Call your Mom or Dad, or sister or brother!
I’d like to tell you about a phone call I received last week from a fellow Wedgewood member, Dr. David Brown.
“I think the club is doing a great job during this difficult time. We are a member-owned, member dues paying club. We need to take advantage of the creative ways the club is responding to the state’s restrictions in order to get the most out of our club membership. We ordered dinner this week. Riley and team did a wonderful job meeting our family dietary requirements. Our meal was carefully prepared, delivered it to our home on-time and (bonus), with a bottle of wine. We greatly appreciate it!”
Eat. Play. Appreciate. Think creatively. Get out and enjoy this unique time!
Sincerely,
Wedgewood Board of Directors
