Pediatric Updates, Opportunities &
Events
Wednesday, 25 March 2020 | Issue 20
Dear Chapter Members,

When I first envisioned these email updates early last year, I thought I'd contact you every 2 - 4 weeks with updates as they arise.

Well, the world has changed and now I find I must update you every few days! I promise to not waste your time and only send these updates when I truly have something of value or timely to share.

Be well,
Lee

UPDATES
Getting Started with Telehealth
The AAP understand that many pediatricians are new to telehealth and have put together this excellent video to get members started.

Worth a watch!

Also check out the AAP's Telehealth Support page.

Nevada Medicaid Telehealth Policy
Nevada Medicaid has temporarily lifted the telephonic restriction on the Telehealth Billing . This means that if the patient at home can only connect by phone, and not video, you can still bill Medicaid using the Place of Service (POS) code 02.

The Q3014 code is only paid when the care is facility to facility, not to the patient at home.

We anticipate the State will continue to update the Nevada Medicaid Response page and will alert you to pertinent updates.
Maintaining Childhood Immunizations During COVID-19 Pandemic
The CDC has added guidance to its Resources for Clinics and Healthcare Facilities page on Maintaining childhood immunizations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If a practice can provide only limited well child visits, healthcare providers are encouraged to prioritize newborn care and vaccination of infants and young children (through 24 mo nths of age) when possible.

Call Outpatient Clinics Before Referring Patients
Nevada AAP leadership has heard from chapter members that outpatient clinics that once saw referred patients without question have, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, implemented policies to not see anyone with cough or fever within 14 days. Other facilities are designating some locations for "sick' and others as "well." It's a rapidly changing situation.

Before sending a patient for an urgent, but not emergency, test or procedure, have your staff call first to ensure the patient can be seen. If the patient cannot be seen, before sending the patient to the ED, try first to find a non-ED clinic that will accomodate the patient.
OPPORTUNITIES
Chapter Media Spokesperson - Drowning Prevention
The AAP has asked us to identify a Chapter member willing to act as the spokesperson for media inquiries on drowning prevention. Chapter members who are interested in this role must contact Chapter Executive Director Leann McAllister by April 8.

Selected media contacts will have AAP virtual media training at 10:00 AM PT (1 2:00 PM CT) on Wednesday, April 22.

Speaker Proposals Due March 31!

As of today, we are hopeful that we will be able to hold our Annual Meeting on October 24 at the M Resort, but we are exploring options for shifting to a virtual experience if in-person proves to be impossible.

In the meantime, call for Speakers, Posters, and Exhibitors is happening now . Learn more at NevadaAAP.org/annual-meeting-2020 .

Although we are all practicing "social distancing", there are still online opportunities to "get together" to network and learn together. We may be physically separated, but not emotionally or intellectually.
