A Note from the Board Chair...
Dear Crossroads Parents,

Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure of writing many newsletter articles to share exciting events and information about Crossroads School. I have been extremely proud of the team of teachers and administrators we have assembled. It has been an honor to watch our students learn and mature.

As the Chair of the Board of Directors, I have also had the pleasure of working with a dedicated group of individuals who given their time and resources to assure that the best interest of our students is always the driver of our decisions.

To that end, the Board of Directors has made the decision to close the Delores Street campus that has been home to Crossroads for over 43 years. As with every decision regarding the best for our students, much thought, research and consideration has gone into arriving at this decision. We are excited to introduce you to The Monarch School and Institute who looks forward to welcoming the Crossroads family to their community.

We recognize that this announcement comes at a time already filled with many uncertainties. However, we can say with certainty that the opportunities that will be available to our students at The Monarch School are unmatched. From the beautiful 11-acre LEED Gold certified campus in the Spring Branch area, to the vast resources and great sense of community beyond the schoolhouse, Monarch will provide an ideal learning environment for our students that we could never provide at the Dolores campus. Most importantly, the vision of the two schools and the goals for individualized education plans are very much aligned.

We hope to see all of our returning students at Monarch this fall. For those of you who have already signed a contract with Crossroads for the 2020–21 school year, please know the tuition rate will be honored by Monarch and you will be provided a Monarch contract. If you choose not to make the move, you will be released from your contract and will be refunded 100% of your deposit and any tuition paid in advance. If you have not yet signed a contract with us and would like to apply to Monarch, we will assist you in that process. Ginger Cuellar, the Head of Business and Finance at Crossroads has already been hired as the new Business and Finance Director of The Monarch School and stands ready to ensure a smooth transition with contracts for our families.

Patti Pace, The Head of School and Institute, oversees the large array of programs and services offered by Monarch with the help of her highly qualified team of faculty, educators and therapists. Patti is looking forward to meeting you and your student. Additionally, she is familiar with and so impressed with our Crossroads employees. She is excited about the possibility and hopes many from the Crossroads team will soon be part of the Monarch team to further ensure a smooth transition for all parties concerned. I will also be joining the Monarch team as a member of the Board.

Following this letter, you will see a Welcome Letter from Patti. As soon as we are safely able, we will plan an Open House for you to visit Monarch and meet Patti and her leadership team. In the meantime, I encourage you to watch this video which can be found on YouTube: Monarch School and Institute and go to the Monarch website  www.TheMonarchSchool.org . where an additional video can be found under the “About” tab.

Dear Crossroads Community,

The Houston area is very fortunate to host many schools serving individuals with neurological differences. Through the past couple of years, Monarch has had the pleasure of developing a great professional relationship and personal friendship with leaders and faculty from the Crossroads School, Inc.

Leaders at both campuses have found the missions of our schools, the goals for individualized education plans, dedication to the whole child, addressing social and emotional needs, and the ultimate goal of supporting each learner as they integrate, and embrace the greater community very much aligned. Our two schools share an interesting business concept, based on the  best interest of each child , we celebrate when they move on to or are able to access a less restrictive environment.

With our close friendship and alignment in meeting the needs of our learners, Monarch is so thrilled to open our doors to the Crossroads community. Our leadership team is ready to meet one on one through Office Teams, ZOOM, or a good old fashioned phone call! Starting next week, we are available to schedule an opportunity to learn about your child’s needs and are eager to plan for their successes. We would love to discuss programming including three graduation pathway options, our career exploration including our professional kitchen and culinary options, musical theater, art, coding and horticulture. We have several reading specialists who work directly in the classrooms as well as with small pull out groups and a math specialist on campus.

We, like Crossroads, have a strong commitment to service and the successes of our students are our successes!   The leadership teams of both schools are committed and will work hard to ensure a smooth transition for all parties involved with this exciting opportunity. Additionally, you will be pleased to know that Debi Mishael has accepted Monarch’s invitation to join as a Trustee for the school’s Board.

I hope to connect via email soon so we can discuss how we can serve your student and family. Monarch’s arms are open wide for you. Have a safe and relaxing weekend.

Sincerely,
Patti Pace
