Immediate Press Release

MPHS maintains daily schedule despite power outage

Mary Persons High School is maintaining its daily schedule despite a power outage affecting the main campus.

The outage was caused by a tree which fell near the teachers' parking lot about 11 a.m. this morning, downing a main power line into the school.  City of Forsyth electric crews are on site to assist with repairs and restoring power.

Principal Dr. Jim Finch said teachers and students would continue the school day as closely as possible and maintain a normal schedule.  Students are safe and should remain at school, so Dr. Finch is discouraging early checkouts. (Due to the outage, the checkout process will be delayed.)

End of the day release will be at the normal time, but student and parent traffic will be isolated to the Montpelier Avenue exit.  Drivers should be prepared to follow the directions of school staff or Student Resource Officers at release time.
