ADVOCACY UPDATES

The Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General of Alberta announced the establishment of an Alberta Police Advisory Board to give municipalities a voice in setting provincial policing priorities.

AUMA is extending the deadline for submitting resolutions from May 31 to June 30. This provides members extra time to complete and approve resolutions for consideration at the 2020 Convention. Please review AUMA’s 2020 Resolutions Guide and Template for guidance on preparing a resolution.

The Alberta Recycling Management Authority continues to work with municipalities through various grant programs which have been modified for COVID-19.

Alberta Culture, Multiculturalism, and the Status of Women have released a fact sheet to help non-profits and charitable organizations remain informed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Emergency Preparedness Week is May 3 to 9, 2020. Visit alberta.ca for tools and resources, including the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) YouTube playlist, which has helpful 60 second emergency tips.

The Miistakis Institute is creating a Municipal EcoToolkit aimed at helping Alberta municipalities maintain their natural systems. Miistakis is seeking feedback from municipalities. The survey will be opened until May 14, 2020.

Do I need permission to replace or build a dock, boathouse, or other structure on a navigable water?
Transport Canada says every case is different. Depending on several factors, you may need to submit an application to the Navigation Protection Program (NPP) for approval. Learn more about navigable waters, the requirements to construct or modify a work on navigable waters, or to submit an application for work at the NPP website.
