Special Edition: Travel Information Update
Traveling to Portugal

TRAVEL INFORMATION UPDATE

Announced last week, Portugal has specified rules for travelers that will be able to visit the country's territories. While other European nations have made decisions on who can enter based on countries with similar epidemiological situations or geographical locations, it seems that Portugal's approach is different. The update included access for countries in the Schengen Area with the exception of Spain and Italy, but interestingly said that Portugal's airports will be open to the USA, Canada, Brazil and other countries with Portuguese language.

Services and businesses that are open now include public transport, street stores, book shops and libraries, restaurants and cafes (at 50% capacity with a closing time of 11pm), golf courses, museums, galleries and zoos. May 30 will see religious celebrations being allowed at limited capacity, June 1 will see cinemas, theatres, concert halls and auditoriums opening with reduced capacity while beaches aim to open on June 6.

FLYING TO PORTUGAL

TAP officially announced the gradual and phased restart of its operation, adapted to lift some of the restrictions imposed on air passenger transport and in response to the still reduced demand.
In June, TAP will only operate the Newark-Lisbon route, with 2 weekly flights, on Thursdays and Sundays (starting on the 4th of June).
In July, in addition to these two weekly Newark-Lisbon frequencies, the following routes will be restarted:
Boston-Lisbon, with 2 weekly frequencies.
Miami-Lisbon, with 2 weekly frequencies.
Boston-Ponta Delgada, with 3 weekly frequencies.

Globally, TAP will operate a total of 27 weekly flights in June and 247 weekly flights in July (19% of its normal operation before the Covid-19 pandemic).

SATA will gradually resume passenger transport on SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines flights as of 29 May.

May 29
SATA Air Açores flights restart, with a reduced operation, with daily flights to all the islands of the Archipelago of the Azores, except for Corvo island, which will have air connections on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

June 15
Resumption of Azores Airlines flights between Lisbon and Ponta Delgada and between Lisbon and Terceira, as well as flights between Funchal and Ponta Delgada.

June 22
Return of air connections between Lisbon and Horta and Pico airports.

July 1
Air connections between Porto and Ponta Delgada, as well as international connections to Boston, Toronto, Praia (Cape Verde), and Frankfurt, will be resumed from this date.
The restart of international connections will be conditional on the lifting of restrictions on the entry of foreign nationals into Portugal and the various countries in which we operate, as well as the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the countries of origin.

In addition, PALCUS is a member-driven non-profit organization that depends on membership dues and fundraising events to fund its operations.  Members of the all-volunteer board of directors donate their time and personal funds for travel, lodging and tickets to attend networking events and planning sessions so our administrative costs are relatively low but nonetheless critical to doing business on a daily basis.
