Stories from the global community
Come along on the journey!
Today, if you don't do anything else, please watch this video. It's a celebration of why World's Window exists and why we go on these "journeys" and sponsor events like
"Flipping Favorites."
With thanks to Matr Boomie for their beautiful look at being
"All One. All Kin."
Day 15: Back to KC to Celebrate Flipping Favorites!
Destination: Brookside, Kansas City, Missouri
Yes, indeed. On this #GivingTuesdayNow we are headed back to our little neighborhood of Brookside in Kansas City, MO. This is THE week when we should be celebrating another successful "Flipping Favorites" Clothing Drive and Shopping Benefit for Rose Brooks Center, our local domestic violence shelter.
Fun Facts: This year would have been our 15th annual "Flipping Favorites". Get that? Fifteen!! Fifteen years of our customers cleaning out their closets to benefit Rosie's Closet so that women sheltering from domestic abuse could choose new clothing as a part of their new start in life. Our Grand Finale parties raise around $7,000 each year plus around 1,000 items of new and gently-used, clean clothing items go straight to Rosie's Closet.
Obviously we haven't been collecting clothes during these past 6 weeks and we won't be partying on our sidewalk, but, in honor of our past celebrations and #GivingTuesdayNow, we're still inviting you to our "party" today for Rose Brooks Center.
PARTY TIME: 3 Ways to Celebrate
and
Help Rose Brooks this Year:
1.
Mother's Day Gift Assortments -
Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 10th. With our 63rd Street store still closed, w
e'
re helping you celebrate with 9 wonderful gift assortments that you can buy on-line.
10% of these purchases will be donated to Rose Brooks.
We'll even tuck in a FREE Mother's Day card with each gift assortment purchased.
Check them all out by clicking on the picture or the link below.
2. "Circle of Caring" Shopping Bags
Our eco-friendly, cotton cloth shopping totes continue to be an ongoing way we support Rose Brooks. These beautiful
bags are made in Rajasthan, India, of locally grown, hand-spun and woven cotton using natural dyes and hand-carved printing blocks. Matr Boomie is our fair trade partner in producing these bags. (Check out more about Matr Boomie in the next section of this newsletter.)
The bags come in a wider assortment of patched fabrics than shown above, so are sold as "multi". We'll choose a lovely one (or 2 or 3) for you! Our shopping totes sell for $20 and 50% of the proceeds ($10 per bag) is donated to Rose Brooks Center. The bags are very strong and able to be washed in a machine over and over, making them safer and more ecological to use. Click on the bags above to buy some for yourself and some to give to all the mothers and mothering people in your life!
Each bag says Fair Trade = Justice + Peace + Love inside as well as our World's Window logo.
Help keep building a world of peace through fair trade, sharing and healing.
3. Donate Directly to Rose Brooks
As you know, we love Rose Brooks Center's mission of protecting victims of domestic violence and all the wonderful folks who work there.
Rose Brooks Center is about saving lives. Rose Brooks not only protects hundreds of adults, children and their pets who need emergency shelter to escape life-threatening abuse, but thousands of families in the community who need support and resources.
By the way, if you are in a crisis or you know someone who is, please call Rose Brooks at
816-861-6100
.
During these unusual times, their work continues as domestic violence increases. The Rose Brooks team has been working tirelessly to provide care throughout these stay-at-home weeks. Please consider supporting their work, by donating directly to Rose Brooks by clicking on their logo:
And, if you think about it, put
"Flipping Favorites" in the comment line of the giving form so Rose Brooks knows you are celebrating with us this week!
As we near
Mothers Day
on May 10th, consider making a gift in someone's honor. Your gift will give mothers the chance to provide a safe future for themselves and their children.

In Sanskrit, matr signifies 'mother' and boomie stands for 'land'. Together, Matr Boomie means motherland, the ground we walk on, the creative source. Transcending borders and boundaries, Matr Boomie alludes to all the people and places who have shaped our character and woven our unique perspectives. It is not just the places we were born, but all the places we've seen and felt. This unifying principle of oneness is what they strive to interweave into their business and culture.
We will be "journeying" to India soon to visit some more of the Matr Boomie artisans. For today, we express appreciation again for the beautiful way they remind us that we are "All One. All Kin."
