GRANT SPOTLIGHT

National Corn Growers Association

The National Corn Growers Association represents 40,000 corn farmers in Washington D.C. while developing, improving, and maintaining overseas and domestic markets.

Staff and the seven grower-led action teams work to increase demand, strengthen customer and consumer trust, enhance productivity and environmental sustainability, and strive for organizational excellence.

In 2021, NCGA staff and partner organizations worked to focus on continued education efforts surrounding the use of ethanol. Over the past three years NCGA has partnered with Wayne Fueling Systems to produce and sell fuel pumps certified to deliver fuel containing up to 25% ethanol and working to push that certification up to 40%. This is leading to the sale of more than 50,000 new fuel pumps across the U.S. and building out the infrastructure needed to support the future mid-level blends of ethanol. Many other accomplishments were achieved and for 2022 NCGA is continuing to work for farmers.

Maryland Grain Producers Board Member, Evan Miles, works with the National Corn Growers Association on behalf of our association. Evan is part of the Production Technology Access action team and attends numerous meetings to act as a voice for Maryland farmers.

Maryland Grain Producers Check-Off Program
The Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board is funded through the Maryland Grain Check-Off Program; when grain that is produced in Maryland is sold by a farmer, the Utilization Board receives one-half of a percent of its net value. The Check-Off program is voted on by referendum every five years and has always received a greater than 90% affirmation vote. Each year organizations and universities are encouraged to submit grant proposals in November for consideration by MGPUB. The Utilization Board gathers to hear presentations on each proposal and reports from the previously funded projects. Projects must improve the viability and profitability of grain production through research, education, or market development.

For 2022, the Grain Producers will award $978,650 for 37 projects across the state. Congratulations to each recipient.
